It’s that time of the year again! Already!? Yeah, this year flew by, but hopefully not so fast that we lost sight of what we’re thankful for. Because besides all the food and the sales, this is the time of the year for reflection, thinking about what we’re grateful for, and family. I talk about all of those things in this episode a bit about journaling and why it’s important, what we’re grateful for here at my office, and a bit about my own family Thanksgiving experiences. Take a look, and if you feel like it comment below something or someone you are grateful for right now. And I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.

It's that time of the year already! And not just for good food and good deals, but for reflecting on the year we're leaving behind. Pausing for a minute from the busy hustle to think about what, or who, we're grateful for. In this episode I talk about that, and why I think keeping a journal is a part of it. Plus a little bit about my mom this time of year! I wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

It may not feel like we're entering the Fall/Winter season, but we are. This means the real estate market goes through a big shift for buyers and sellers and typically gets quiet and slow. But not for you! Not if you're hustling proper like I used to. Take a break? Hibernate? Nope. If it's real estate or another industry, when the competition slows down is when you speed up. This is my favorite time of year, and I'll tell you why in this episode...

We decided to shake things up recently, by trying something new with how we approach big goals for the coming year. We had recently brought in all the department managers to help us set goals, but this time we heard a suggestion to step it up a notch and include the entire company in this decision-making process. So we mapped it out, launched it, and reviewed the results. Guess what? It was a hit. We empowered our employees to have a stake in what we pursue as a company, as a family, and they hit the ground running with it. The year 2020 is all about vision(pun definitely intended), and we’re excited to have every single hand on deck to make sure it’s the best year ever hit play and get inspired.

I went for a walk around K st, with Aaron Marchand; VP of Turton Commercial Real Estate. We talked about what's happening downtown, especially in the K Street area; from the new Taco Bell that's opening soon to hoping for an Apple Store. It was very insightful, and I gotta tell ya the K street renaissance is in full effect, and the possibilities are endless. Hit play to see a bit of what we talked about, because if you're #sacramentoproud you're gonna enjoy this little look inside Sacramento development.

Welcome back! Here's part 2 of my little "get to know Tyler by asking about all the stuff behind his desk" video! I'm sure you were on the edge of your seat after the last episode, wondering what other wacky stuff I'm hoarding in my office. So let's talk about a few more things and why they actually mean a lot to me, and the messages and lessons they remind me of every day I come to work.

How about we pause our usual insights, and motivations and industry tips and get a little personal? It’s a pretty common occurrence for someone I meet with to ask me about something on my office shelf. I’m sure it’s a little distracting when we’re trying to have a meeting and you keep noticing a flamethrower over my shoulder! Now it might look like a bunch of random items but I assure you everything I keep in my office has meaning to me. So let’s talk about all that stuff behind me, shall we?

What we build isn't what defines us, but our core values do. I say this a lot, and some folks might hear that and wonder what it means exactly. Basically, the product we make and provide is constantly evolving, it changes and grows to fit the needs of our customers and the industry. Something that was great yesterday might not be great tomorrow, so we change it up to improve it, or get rid of it altogether. But our core values never change, because they go hand in hand with our mission, both internally and externally. Regardless of what we’re making and what we’re doing with it, the words we live by are always the same. I’ll elaborate on how that works, and what some of those core values are in this video.

You know that old saying, ""it takes one to know one"? Well, it's kind of true in the business world. How can you expect to properly serve your customers if you don't know what their life is like? You have to know what they do best, what they do worst, what they want and what they don't want. Only then can you properly provide that top-shelf experience. At SkySlope we have to think like a realtor so that we can give them exactly what they need, and even sometimes things they didn't know they needed, yet...

Ever notice how the first thing a child does after they fall down is look to their parents? Then they gauge their response based on yours! If you react dramatically, they react dramatically. That minor bump on their knee just became a catastrophic injury to them. There is something similar in the business world; sometimes a scrape can seem like a life-threatening injury if you don’t educate your team and your customers so that they can see the bigger picture. It’s easy to say don’t sweat the small stuff, but how do you define what’s small without a sense of scale? If they have a clear perception of every moving part and how they exist together, then you all share the same reality.

Not only should you be a subject matter expert in the service or product you provide but it's equally important that you have a deep understanding of who you are serving. Whether you're a software engineer, a product designer or tech support, it benefits you and your customer to know the ins and outs of your customers and the industry. At SkySlope we have a lot of real estate experts who drive our product to meet the demands of our customers which is why we need to make sure everyone who works at SkySlope has a deep understanding of the real estate industry and its professionals (brokers, admins, TCs, and agents). To help give our team insight into the challenges real estate professionals experience, we're creating a company-wide internal Real Estate 101 course because what better way to serve experts than to be one yourself?
