Diving into the editing suite! Your chance to see cinematic re-imaginings of Amy Seiwert's "By Any of Name" and Ben NeedhamWood's "Waiting for..." as part of ODC Theater's Fall season. This hybrid digital offering of SKETCH 11, with the works that premiered to critical acclaim in August, explores how we can translate our stage offerings to the digital realm. Not simply stage documentation, these screenings utilize multiple camera angles and diegetic sound. Our hope is to supplement a traditional stage performance by offering this unique point of view. In the past 17 months, Imagery has hired dancers, choreographers, writers, production staff, graphic designers, and administrators, all as employees, not contractors. We have made art. We have kept people employed. We have contributed to the creative economy. And we did it with help.... Thank you to the California Arts Council for believing in us and supporting what we do. #MeetTheChoreographer The third installment of #SKETCHFILMS #RedThread launches Thursday, November 5th, and features the choreography of SKETCH 9 alum Stephanie Martinez. Over eleven years of award-winning works, Chicago-based choreographer Stephanie Martinez moves her audiences along a journey guided by the kinetic momentum of her work. With original creations for The Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Hispánico, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Charlotte Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Eugene Ball...et, Nashville Ballet, Ballet Memphis, Kansas City Ballet, and the National Choreographers Initiative, among others, Martinez’s versatility expands the boundaries of contemporary ballet movement. Martinez has created over 60 ballets on companies and collegiate programs across the country. In 2015, Martinez was awarded Joffrey Ballet’s Winning Works: Choreographers of Color commission and the Chicago 3Arts Award in recognition for her work as a female artist of color. More recently, Martinez was awarded an NEA grant for her premiere of Bliss! with Joffrey Ballet. Dubbed a chameleon of choreography by the Chicago Tribune, Martinez’s psychologically revelatory works challenge the viewer’s notion of what’s possible. For more information about choreographer Stephanie Martinez, please visit: http://www.stephaniemartinezchoreography.com/ Austin Meiteen and Constanza Murphy in Martinez's world premiere for SKETCH 9, "Otro vez, Otra vez, Otra vez." Ready for the next premiere in our #SKETCHFILMS #RedThread series? When Imagery alumns Kelsey McFalls and Joseph A. Hernandez left the Bay for Chicago, wheels started turning on how to keep these exceptional artists involved in the San Francisco local arts scene. As SKETCH 9 choreographer Stephanie Martinez is also in Chicago, and the trio works so brilliantly together, this next creative team for SKETCH FILMS was an obvious choice. Here's a look back to Stephanie's 2019 premiere with Imagery, featuring Joseph and Kelsey.

"Watching the first two releases of the resulting Sketch Films season, there’s a feeling of Seiwert retrenching with old family in times of crisis, a sense of relief in coming home to carefully cultivated, long-trusted community... I was moved by these dance films, but even more so by the way artistic families like Imagery are holding tight to one another through this time." - Rachel Howard's review of "Crack the Dark" and "WeAIghT" #fjordreview... https://fjordreview.com/amy-seiwert-imagery-sketch-films/

Join Smuin Ballet in a celebration of the centennial of the 19th amendment and honor the suffragettes who paved the way for women voters. All proceeds will benefit the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political nonprofit that encourages informed and active participation in government. This choreography seminar is designed for both non-dancers and dancers to enjoy! Using the Zoom polling feature, this seminar is a unique opportunity to participate in creating an original... dance work by voting on choreographic choices. Attendees will get to immediately experience how their vote impacts the creative process. Former Smuin dancer and choreographer-in-residence, Imagery's Amy Seiwert will present a simple movement phrase and lead a workshop demonstrating some of the tools a choreographer can use to transform movement into endless choreographic possibilities. Smuin alums, including Imagery's Artistic Fellow Ben NeedhamWood, will apply the choices voted on by you in the moment as we create distinct works together. You can choose to dance along or simply watch and see how your vote impacts this Democracy In Motion! https://www.smuinclasses.org//friday-october-23-5-30-/208
