Let’s talk about crab updates... Waiting, waiting, and more waiting. Our season as we all read is set to open the 23rd buuuut we are still waiting for price negotiations to settle. Hopefully we will hear news (really any kind would be nice haha) after Monday (tomorrow ) ... We are all so anxiously waiting to toss the crabs in the cooker and see all your smiling eyes socially distancing outside of the crab house very soon! Commercial Fishermen’s Wives You’re probably thinking who are these fish wives and what do they do? They’ve been popping up all over the place recently. Well here’s the down low: they are the wives, children, and loved ones of all our commercial fishermen from every fleet and every coast. A fish wife isn’t just a branch off our spouses. Ohhh no! Fishermen’s wives around the country have made a huge impact on commercial fishing. They’ve done it all from raising babies, hold...ing down a second job, gear work, fish processing, executive boat operation decisions, crew stand ins, and community outreach. They’ve started a nonprofit organization dedicating their time to their fleet making sure all vessels are equipped with the tools and knowledge of safety, scholarship programs and food drives, fishermen memorials and festivals, commercial fishing education, and support for families whose fishermen have been lost at sea. What this nonprofit group of extraordinary women do for their community is true love and dedication, for not only their captain and crew but for all. Crab season is days away, and as much excitement as we all have for the opener comes an equal underlying anticipation of weather. To help prepare our fleet for this season our local Fishermen’s Wives have provided financial assistance for Marine SafetyTraining (AMSEA) to the fleet and received a donation by our local Englund Marine Supply of Coast Guard approved whistles for our entire commercial fleet, captain and crew. Salty Santa Boat Parade! Santa will be touring around at the waterfront by boat this coming Saturday at 12 Noon! Please Mask Up, Social Distance, and join us safely around the foot of Old Town Eureka as Santa and his elves, along with his fleet of friends, as they ride off to prepare for Christmas! If you find a place on a dock make sure all kids are wearing life vests and all guests are using water safety.
