Many people are suffering during these times. I'm particularly thinking of those who are homeless, hungry, and without resources. The best part of today was joining in a Zoom class with Prima Materia Institute, painting an original abstract inspired by the style of Joan Miro. My piece, Woman With Gold and Silver Tresses Speaks Her Truth To Birds, may or may not be finished. Going to sit with her for a bit.

During this time of not teaching classes, I'm hosting weekly pop up art shows in my driveway! Due to the foot traffic in our neighborhood (we're on the way to the dog park) and we're on a through street, many stop by looking and want to chat! I've sold more art out of my driveway than I've sold in exhibits in the past year, at lower prices but higher volume! But there are no entry fees nor commissions. If you have even a small body of work, give it a shot. It will be the best part of your week, I promise. And you can paint while you're out there. I created these pieces, portraits of comics Wanda Sykes and Lewis Black, during my recent pop up shows:

Here's what I'm doing now: creating a whole new reality outside of Covid on a repurposed canvas, because it's harder to get large canvases right now. Here's Session 1 of Hiking in Armstrong Woods with My Tribe, 36 x 48 oil. A good challenge for all would be: 1. repurpose canvases you have left alone because you didn't know what to do with them (why waste?) 2. paint a whole new reality for yourself!

Due to sheltering in place, Art Ventures classes are not currently happening. Stay safe out there, and keep those paint brushes moving!

Next class: Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 2-5 pm. Only 2 people so far. If you're not a regular and interested, message me. The focus is coaching individual challenges.

Look whose painting is the "poster child" for this year's Front Porch Gallery Juried Show! I'd love to see some of my students submit this year. It's a somewhat well-known show with prize money!

This page has been inactive for awhile, because our classes have been on hiatus for the holiday season. Meanwhile, I'm getting ready for my "really big shewwww" at Culture Brewing in OB, opening this Friday night with a reception from 5-9 pm. My rock star portraits are excited to get out of the garage and onto the wall! Come have a brew and say hi!

Third week of our populated landscapes in oil, and amazing scenes are emerging. Good work, artists!

Art Ventures students layer acrylic under paintings with oil. Lots of progress today. We're going to have some fantastic landscapes.

We started a new series today, a landscape populated with a single figure or several figures. I thought I'd switch it up and have them compose and under paint in acrylic before adding the oil. We got a lot done today!
