Hi there! It has been a long time since I have communicated with my ceramic families. I have missed teaching ceramics SO much!! All the wonderful students, the creativity, the joy of sharing, the wonder of seeing how the pieces really turned out-all things I miss! I had hoped that our low Covid numbers in Chico would allow us to meet in small groups before school was officially out. That has not been the case.... When the shelter in place order started, I transitioned from teaching home-school (high school) 3 days a week to 5 days a week- so my life has been really full & busy! But- this Friday is our last day of school, and then my schedule opens up. I plan to spend next Monday & Tuesday (5/25 & 26) in the ceramics room, from 9 until 3. I still have so many of your lovely completed pieces, pieces that need glazing and projects still wrapped- damp clay, in the classroom. I would like to get your pieces to you I am inviting you to come by the classroom Monday or Tuesday to see what is here that might belong to you. This can look different for different students, depending on how careful you are being.(Nothing in the room has been touched since early March, so the room is safe.) If you are using extreme caution (possibly living with someone who is at high risk), let me know ASAP and I will have you come first- perhaps even this weekend. Obviously, if you are not feeling well or know you have been recently exposed to any illness, please don’t come. We can make other plans when you are well. How I see things happening: Completed projects: Your visit can be as quick & simple as picking up your finished pieces, and hopefully identifying unfinished pieces that are yours. Fired, unglazed pieces: Bisque ware can be identified & set aside to glaze in the fall, or alternately, taken home so that you can paint them with acrylic. Or- you may choose to glaze them, outside, sitting on the lawn.(All brushes to be washed after use in hot, soapy water) Once fired, I will hold another open house for pick up. Unfinished, damp clay- Wrapped clay projects can be: 1) recycled back in to clay balls 2) completed on the lawn, then left with me to dry. I will fire them to be glazed at another open house or in the fall. 3)Taken home with you to be finished at home. We can discuss options for firing these. My plan is to teach ceramics in the fall. If you think you’d like to sign up, I’d be happy to start class lists. I’ve heard from the church that my room may not be available after December, (depending on how the reopening of normal life & church gathering goes.) If the room is no longer available, then I will consider what might be possible. That is all out of my control....so, for now, I can plan on classes in September as long as classes are allowed to take place

While on Orcas Island, I visited Orcas Island Pottery. What a wonderful place to go shopping & to get inspired to create! I saw so many examples of beauty & skill, expressions of elegance as well as whimsy & humor
