I am happy to be introducing the 2nd edition of ONLY SKIN DEEP: the show for dancers of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and Mixed Heritage in Humboldt County. ...The show, having made it's debut in September 2020, once again invites dancers of color to self- produce a 3 to 5- minute dance performance video, or prepare a live performance, to be shared on February 26th, 2021 as the "opening ceremony" of Artists Dismantling Capitalism, a weekend- long exploration, through seminars and workshops, of ways artists can put action behind words to reinvent the system. Of the total funds raised both here, in potential ticket sales and hopefully through grants, 50% will go towards paying the dancers who perform in ONLY SKIN DEEP for their time, energy and talents, 25% will cover the purchase or renting of equipment and materials by the dancers to help bring their creative visions to life, 20% will be donated back to the community through local organizations serving artists and BIPOC in Humboldt County and 5% will be gifted to the organizers for their time and efforts. Timely donations are appreciated as initial funds will go straight to artists currently working to prepare and film their performances.
