Coronavirus explained on Netflix: a great and simple way to understand how our immune systems works and how are therapies and vaccines helping to end this pandemic.
Full FDA approval of Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine is 'imminent,' senior federal official says. It will most likely occur on Monday August 23, 2021. ETA: Full approval was granted today! August 23, 2021. https://www.nytimes.com//world/covid-delta-variant-vaccine
The Biden administration plans to begin offering COVID-19 booster shots this fall for those who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, eight months after they become fully vaccinated, as cases of the delta variant continue to spread across the country. People who are eligible can receive a third shot beginning Sept. 20, pending authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is expected in the coming weeks, according to a statement from the Department of Health and Human Services and other administration medical experts.
In response to the CDC’s recommendation on 8/13/2021 for immunocompromised patients to receive a third COVID-19 vaccine, ACR President David Karp, MD, calls the decision enormously important. See details & read the full statement https://acr.tw/3sfqeBm
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the use of REGEN-COV (casirivimab and imdevimab) for postexposure prophylaxis of COVID-19 in individuals (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40kg) who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death. The investigational agent was previously granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19.

First doses of COVID19 vaccines arrived to San Diego today. Front line health care workers will be the first ones to be vaccinated this week. #covid_19 #covid19sandiego #sandiegocounty #rheumatologysandiego
First people vaccinated in California today with COVID19 Pfizer vaccine. This is an INACTIVE vaccine and therefore considered safe in patients on immunosuppression. The American College of Rheumatology recommends the use of COVID19 vaccine. Patient with severe allergic reactions should carry their EpiPen to the vaccination site as a precaution. #rheumatologysandiego #covid19 #covid19_vaccine
As development of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 continues now including vaccine candidates with applications for emergency use authorization (EUA) in the U.S. the American College of Rheumatology has updated its vaccine information. Comprehensive safety checks are required as part of the process leading to FDA approval of a new vaccine. As with all vaccines that have passed rigorous testing and licensure procedures, the benefits of vaccination (preventing or reducing the severity of infection) are expected to far outweigh any risk from the vaccine. We anticipate recommending all patients, including rheumatology patients, receive an approved COVID-19 vaccine. #rheumatologysandiego #covid19 #covid19vaccine
Development of COVID19 vaccines: the most recently approved Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and soon to be approved Moderna vaccine are MRNA (3). AstraZenaca/Oxford and Janssen are using COVID19 DNA and an adenovirus vector (Astrazeneca using chimpanzee adenovirus) (2) to bring the protein into the human cell.

Farewell to Eric! He is moving on to pursue his dream of becoming a physician. Perhaps he will be a rheumatologist one day! It has been a pleasure working with him and we will miss his sense of humor!
Pfizer/BioNTech COVID19 vaccine. How it works: it is an engineered MRNA that causes the human body to create antibodies against the virus. Inside the cell this MRNA creates a protein that is a version of the virus spike protein. #rheumatologysandiego #covid_19 #covid19vacccine
We are working hard to keeping you safe. We are seeing patients in the office daily. Telemedicine appointments are encouraged especially for our senior community. #rheumatologysandiego #covid19 #covid19sandiego
On step closer to ending this pandemic. Pfizer vaccine was approved today.
Safety First: during these unprecedented times we are going above and beyond standard to protect our patients and staff. We have added the following layers of protection to minimize and eliminate all potential. Irak aerosoles: newly installed HVAC system, medical grade HEPA filtration systems placed throughout the office, deep office cleaning between appointments, temperature checks and more! We are also still encouraging telemedicine appointments. #rheumatologysandiego

One of the precautions we are taking to ensure the safety of our patients and employees is screening everyone at the entrance. During this process, the person’s temperature is taken. For patients, this screening also includes a vitals check and some additional questions to ensure they are placed in the appropriate care setting. #rheumatologysandiego
