Winter in Japan: Shizue’s Plum 2020 Martha Wolfe, 60 x 30 Handpainted antique kimono silk and linen, Japanese yarn-dyed cottons and silk organza. Surface design, raw-edge appliqué, machine quilting. Creating Shizue’s Plum was a wonderful experience for me, from the young girl’s kimono to honoring a life. I love to work with textiles that have a past, old clothes, vintage quilts scraps, family linens, even my mother’s wedding dress. They have a story somewhere, and someti...mes I am lucky enough to tell it in my work. Narumi shared the piece I had created with Shizue and she was thrilled.
