Kodak’s 35-millimeter color film came to market in 1936 as Kodachrome. While teaching summer school at Mills College, Catherine Bauer showed slides of low-rent housing and took students on a field trip to a Farm Security Administration camp. Prof. Nicole Oest curated this show at UC Berkeley. https://www.facebook.com//eda-exhibition/2655656854658253/ That’s Bauer with a camera around her neck.

You may know Dr. Nicole Krup Oest as an inspiring teacher of Art History at CCSF. In her spare time, she curated a show, Catherine Bauer and the Photography and Modern Housing, and blogged about it for Environmental Design Archives https://archives.ced.berkeley.edu//seeing-modern-architect She’s got a book coming out next year, Photography and Modern Public Housing in Los Angeles (arthistoricum.net, 2021).
