In Response to the Recent Article in The Atlantic Many of you have read or heard about the recent article on youth sports in the November 2020 issue of The Atlantic magazine. We are disappointed by the portrayal of the sport loved by so many of us. It is unfortunate the author used an outdated and distorted image of squash to sensationalize the article’s premise, and in the process denigrated valued members of our community, and the squash community at large. We understand th...at there are challenges in society that impact the youth sports culture in America. There are macro issues regarding college admissions in this country. Undue pressure on kids (and their coaches) to succeed is part of every youth sports’ culture. And increasingly the U.S. has a concerning gap in opportunities for kids across the socioeconomic spectrum to participate in and benefit from youth sports. US Squash’s mission is to increase access, support lifelong engagement, encourage sportsmanship and achieve excellence. Articles such as this make us that much more determined in the ongoing pursuit of our mission, and we see evidence of progress everywhere. This includes the growing number of Community Affiliate programs nationally, the infrastructure investments we’ve made to support the community’s efforts to expand access, the opening of our own facility in one of only 22 federally-designated Promise Zones and our consistent emphasis of the value of good sportsmanship. Tests to the fabric of our community such as this provide a clear reminder of just how much the sport brings to our lives, our families and our community. The values of fairness, courtesy, respect and personal accountability are learned and reinforced in squash. These shared values are embedded in the sport itself they bring us together as a community through deep and abiding friendships. US Squash’s commitment has never been stronger to our vision: for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds across the country to be able to enjoy squash, play the game with a positive spirit, and participate in programs that foster camaraderie, facilitate competition and encourage healthy lifestyles. With your involvement and support, US Squash and the squash community will remain focused on our mission-based work. Kevin Klipstein President & CEO US SQUASH

Isn't it great that our club's (outdoor) tennis-courts are being kept so very busy with junior camps, clinics, lessons and individual play! Boy...isn't now the time to have outdoor squash-courts built...anywhere!? We believe..."Now is the time!" P.S. See this article: http://dailysquashreport.com/6_8_20_nick.htm

Current women's world squash #1 Raneem El-Welily has announced her retirement from the PSA tour! Way back in 2007, Raneem (then world junior squash champion) competed at a WISPA tournament hosted at the LAAC. Unseeded, she made it to the finals against Natalie Grainger. Raneem and her husband Tarek Momen (men's world #3) have decided they want to start a family. The LAAC finals story...... Top seed and clear favorite Natalie Grainger duly claimed the EBG LA Open title at the LAAC, but what a run she was given by world junior champion Raneem El Weleily. Natalie was never able to dominate as she had done all week, as Raneem mixed tremendous retrieving with some lovely winners. Natalie dug in though, and started forcing errors from Raneem and she recovered from 2/1 down to win. A worthy winner and a fine final, much appreciated by the capacity crowd at the LAAC.

Egypt’s Nouran Gohar has today (July 1) become the new women’s World No.1 for the first time following the retirement of previous incumbent Raneem El Welily. Here's a message from Nicol David, nine-years as the #1 women's professional squash-player in the world and holder of eight world championship titles. Here's what she says about her retirement.... One year ago I retired from professional squash. To be honest, before my retirement I was doubting myself so much over what I could do after I retired. What can I do if I don’t play squash? Was in the back of my head all day. ... The beauty of it all is that truly sometimes closing chapters can be one of the best adventures of our lives. It gives us a fresh start, a chance to truly go within and find what moves us and what we want from now on. What I considered at the beginning a torture is now a true blessing. Now in this new chapter of my life, I appreciate what I did and now want to focus on giving back as much as I can. I’m the happiest! Thank you to life for this learning, I also hope if you have to go through changes, just face them. They will be a great learning experience and joy
