We just got a note from Santa Claus! He wanted to let us know that they're getting crazy busy at the North Pole. And that because it's so close to Christmas, that he's not going to be able to answer any letters that are in the mail box after Sunday.

Want to know why we think we have the coolest District Administrator? Colin Miller helped guide our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders through the entire building process of a pumpkin catapult! These incredible kids learned how to combine the power of physics with power tools to create something truly awesome. Our kids made the blueprint plans, cut boards, drilled the screws in, measured everything, and got to see their catapult come to life this week. We couldn’t be more proud of them!

This week at Arden Park has been such a fun one! We sold over 60 Halloween Buckets to our community for a safe and fun Halloween. Our adorable preschoolers from the M/W/F class had their Halloween party, played games, and got to take home a pumpkin. ... Our Arden Park Explorers had a crazy week of wearing costumes every day, tons of Halloween activities, group competitions, and eating their weight in candy. Our biggest project this week was having our oldest group build a catapult from scratch to launch pumpkins in the park! Stay tuned for the video of the official launch

Sacramento officials announced yesterday that they found mosquitoes that can carry Zika virus near Cresta Park. The exact location was at the corner of Arroyo Grande and Las Pasas. We spoke with Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito & Vector Control District this morning and they instructed us to let our community know that if they begin noticing day time mosquito bites, please contact Vector Control. The mosquitoes are dark brown or black with striped legs and are biting during the dayti...me. If you happen to find one and to capture it, please call Vector Control at (800) 429-1022. If the problem becomes worse, Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito & Vector Control will do a wide larval spraying throughout the neighborhood. We do not know when this may happen, but they encourage us to sign up for spray notifications to stay informed as to when that may happen. Today and tomorrow we are pressure washing all of the play structures at both parks. We will also be using an electro static backpack sprayer and VitalOxide to disinfect the equipment at least twice a week moving forward. VitalOxide is an EPA registered hospital grade disinfectant that meets the EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-COV-2. It is both odorless and colorless and poses no risk of irritation to those who come in contact with it. To make sure you Play It Safe, please follow these simple steps to keep our community healthy!

Both of our playgrounds at Cresta and Arden Park are officially open as of today following Gov. Gavin Newsom's announcement. Any public playground that is fully outdoors can reopen. The guidance says the playgrounds should be designed to serve neighborhood residents from within a half-mile. To do so safely, below are the notable rules to be aware of when coming to play at our playgrounds: 1. All visitors at least 2 years of age must wear a face mask. Households should be able... to maintain social distance of 6 feet from others and should not enter once the publicly posted capacity is reached. 2. Caregivers must supervise children closely enough to ensure kids keep masks on and maintain social distance. 3. No visitors are allowed to eat or drink at the playground. The state says that's to ensure that everyone stays masked. 4. Visitors should limit their stay to 30 minutes. We appreciate you keeping our community safe! Notice-the playgrounds and picnic facilities at our parks are still closed in accordance with the Sacramento County Health order. We’ve had to replace the caution tape and fences every day since March and will not continue to do so. The playgrounds are not being sanitized.

MUSIC THROUGH THE PARK POSTPONED The Music Through the Park event scheduled for Saturday evening has been postponed due to the likelihood of poor air quality. We'll watch the fires and see if we can still get something going in the next couple of weeks (or whenever it clears up).

We've received several calls about a group of kids with adults that have been using the play equipment at Cresta. If you know who they are, can you please ask them to stop? The playgrounds are closed due to the state health order and there's nothing the park district can do to override that order. I promise you that the very second that the order is modified or lifted, the barriers will come down. If you see them, please feel free to call security at 916-550-8212.
