Has your meeting moved to an online format? Here are four tips to have effective and efficient meetings. 1. GIVE THE TECH A TEST RUN If you haven't tried your o...rganization's software before, or if you have a new computer, phone or other equipment, download the software ahead of time and try it out. Starting meetings with technical difficulties can throw off the energy of the group and takes precious meeting time to try to fix. It may already be uncomfortable meeting online. Add frustration to the mix, and your meeting is off to a challenging start. 2. TURN OFF OR SILENT DISTRACTIONS If you're not using your phone for the meeting, turn it off or at least turn it to silent. Sit in a comfortable area that's quiet and distraction-free. Are the kids home from school? Set them up with activities to keep them busy before your meeting starts. 3. TAKE NOTES (by hand) Writing while listening will help you stay focused during the meeting, even if you are not planning on keeping your notes. 4. DETERMINE YOUR NEXT ACTIONS AND SCHEDULE THEM. Review your notes and decide what your follow-up activities will be and when they will be completed. Be sure to add them to your calendar or project management system.
