UPDATE (09/25/20): Thanks to the City of Arcata and Affordable Homeless and Housing Alternatives for coordinating a successful shower day for our neighbors who are precariously housed. We are hoping to make this a permanent fixture in Arcata on select days each month but have some further troubleshooting to do to smoothen operations. We will keep you posted as to future developments. In the meantime, check AHHA's website for other shower opportunities available in Eureka, Garberville and McKinleyville: https://ahha-humco.org/.

Please see the attached flier with information about the substance use services that are provided in Humboldt County through Partnership HealthPlan of California. The very first step to accessing these services is to have active Medi-Cal coverage. To check the status of someone’s Medi-Cal, call the DHHS Eureka Call Center.

"'The resources that are in Northern California are kind of slim-picking with COVID-19 hitting,' said Donnie Settles, 27, who was shut out when his overnight shelter in Eureka closed to anyone not inside at the time social distancing policies were enforced. After five weeks of sleeping in hotels and under the stars, Settles found a tent shelter organized by Arcata House Partnership with the city of Arcata for the area’s unsheltered homeless population."

The following project, supported by the Pulitzer Center and produced by the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, details the struggles of folks who have no place in which to shelter during a pandemic that has killed over 170,000 people in the U.S. alone. Featured in the "Voices of the Homeless" section, just a slight scroll down the page, is a former client of Arcata House Partnership's shelter-in-place tent encampment who now lives in a shared apartment while working a full-time job -- the latter of which he was already doing while experiencing homelessness. https://cronkitenews.azpbs.org//covid-hom/audio/index.html
