Hey nonprofit folks, can we be vulnerable for a minute? Is program evaluation the last thing you think about? Are you scrambling to put together reports or collecting only the data funders ask of you? Look I know you are understaffed, under-resourced, and overburdened. From front front-line in youth programs to directing shelters for victims of domestic violence, I've been there and I get how taxing the work is. So I'm going to be straight with you about something I learned a...s an evaluation convert: evaluation IS doing good work. I know you all care about serving your communities and eval feels like a barrier to that but I assure you it can be one of your biggest assets but only if it's at the top of your list, first in line, and not an afterthought. Just starting or building a program: start with your evaluation plan. Already neck deep in a program: it's never too late to start. The most important part of evaluation is DOING IT. Don't know how to start? Watch this video for some quick tips. Yes, there are several technical issues, glitches I can learn from for next time. But rather than waiting one more day to share this with you I'm sharing now because that's the whole point of evaluation: make a plan, implement, learn from it, adjust your plan, repeat. The pandemic has been a disaster for Feminism. That's the bottomline from this discussion and one we see all around us. With the number of little ones our team juggles about to expand by 1, this article is very timely for us and for state of women all around the world. So how do we move forward from here? Creating your OWN space and rules is one option, but not for all. Who does that help? Who does that leave out?
