Searching For Jesus Luke 2: 39-52 01/10/16 This is the only incident in the biblical record of the growing up years of Jesus, it must be important for us to learn a lesson from it. So little is known about the childhood of Jesus. We know He was obedient to parents, He served God since childhood, and He was on a mission to glorify God and save the world.... There are some fantastic tales about the boyhood of Jesus. Stories that Jesus used his divine powers to create birds from clay and to command trees to bear fruit, but they are just fictional stories. The Bible gives no such record. And IF IT IS NOT IN THE BIBLE WE DONT BELIEVE IT. We know from Luke that Jesus was in the temple surrounded by all these wise teachers. They couldnt believe how wise He was. We need to learn that Gods word and The Holy Spirit enables us to be wise just like Jesus. There are three things I would like for you to observe with me today: 1. GOD REVEALS THE VALUE OF THE FAMILY. God himself chose the family and He demonstrates that it was good enough for the upbringing of Jesus. Jesus was missing and his parents were worried. It is a caring family. Jesus was found and His parents reacted as any parent would react to a missing child. The family finally found with joy, relief but also frustration and confusion. We learn that godly parents care about their children. They protect them, give them emotional love, support them, and will never leave them alone in the world. Same thing in a godly family and a church family, brothers and sisters should love and support each other, care about each other, and make each other happy. Let us not be like the world and put aside teasing, selfishness, and discouraging one another. 2. JESUS TEACHES THE NEW IDEA OF A HEAVENLY FATHER Jesus reminds his parents that He was, first the Son of God, in obedience to Him, and called to carry out His Fathers business. He presents the example that He has a heavenly father who had a plan for Him that will not always agree with that of his earthly parents. We need to know that God comes first before parents, friends, family, or anything in this life. We have a Heavenly father and a heavenly family the church. Even at twelve Jesus was moved by a compulsion to do the fathers will. 3. GOD EXPECTS US TO GROW He wants us to increase in wisdom. He wants us to have physical growth He wants us to advance spiritually or grow in grace. Grow means to be more in favor with God, know more about Him, and start serving Him. Let us be like Jesus and be serious about serving Him.
