National Volunteer Month (Pt. 2) May you be filled with the spirit of service With the help of CSULB President's Ambassadors and CSULB's Alpha Phi Sigma (Epsilon Rho Chapter), we made 504 care packages, 168 care packages with toiletries, and 407 extra sandwiches for the people living on Skid Row.

National Volunteer Month (Pt. 1) One of the greatest gifts you can give is your time. On April 7th, our chapter had the honor of hosting Sectionals, a conference that brought together brothers from all over California, Arizona, and Nevada. Because of the hard work and dedication of our bros, Jackie Medrano & Irene Palisoc, we were able to take the time to learn from each other and discover shared experiences. Our collaboration is key to improving ourselves as leaders, frie...nds, and people of service. Together, we can be more and do more to uplift others. Thank you to all of our speakers and everyone who attended #nationalvolunteermonth #limitlesstogether #maywealwaysbe See more

We can't help everyone, but we can help someone. Let's be the reason someone feels seen, heard, and supported. Join us on Sunday, April 8th as we walk the streets of Skid Row and distribute care packages to the homeless community. If you cannot join us that day, we are also accepting donations. Please see the event page for more details. "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted" (Aesop). #SkidRow2018 #LivetoServe #SeethemHearthemSupportthem

Women were allowed full membership to Alpha Phi Omega in 1976. Since then, APO has given women the opportunity to be all that they are capable of. The women of APO are strong and diverse leaders who support each other and work towards positive change in the community and the world. Some of our notable alumni include Kay Krenek, first female APO board member, Maggie Katz, first female APO President, Maura Harty, former U.S. Ambassador to Paraguay, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama. Last week, our bros helped I Dig Long Beach and Garden Adventures with Kids make the community greener and brighter! We planted about 150 trees around the Hamilton neighborhood with I Dig Long Beach. Their goal is to plant around 6,000 trees around Long Beach by 2020. Personally, I was surprised to see the turnout for this event. Many high school and college students came out to help. There had to be at least 50+ people. The service got everyone involved from digging a hole... to planting a tree to getting water. No one was left behind. The service was also a great hands on learning experience for people who were new to gardening. Overall, I Dig Long Beach is an event I'd do again because of the positive impact it has on everyone involved. It's a wonderful way to give back to the community. To put this service in one sentence, "just a little bit goes a long way." - Harold Avelino, Brother of APO Volunteering for Garden with Kids was such a great experience! It was really refreshing to see so many youth be proactive in their community and learn about gardening. Throughout this service, some brothers and I were able to work alongside with other volunteers, as well as the kids, in maintaining their gardens by clearing out weeds and picking out fresh vegetables which the kids grew themselves. Then, we turned these freshly picked vegetables into a salad! Everything about this experience was so heartwarming because these kids were able to see all their hard work, time, and dedication pay off. What makes this service so unique was that it was very hands on for not only the volunteers, but for the kids. This program grants kids the opportunity to learn, build character, and gain special skills that they probably won't be able to acquire anywhere else. It's truly inspiring to see that they are starting so young too! I'm glad I got to be a part of their experience and I only hope that they continue to strive to learn more about gardening while staying active so that they continue to find value in hard work and taking care of our planet! Afterall, children are the future! - Larizza Felix, Brother of APO

We teach and learn from each other. During our Lift U Up Workshop, our bros, Howard Suh, Ceci Chu, Fenando Mata, Darold Trinh, Raman Sidhu, and Ernesto Urena, taught us proper form and technique to help us get the most out of our workout! #togetherwearestronger

We have spent a lot of time with our IC bros these past two weeks! We went to the USVA Tet Festival with our brothers from CSUF and SDSU, ate at Dino's Chicken and Burgers with our brothers from USC, and hopped over to see how meetings are run CSUF with our brothers from UCSD. Here is what our bro, Maile Chew-Fernandez, had to say about her first IC event of the semester: "I had my first experience with GBM [General Body Meeting] Hop at Cal State Fullerton. Overall, I foun...d it to be an extremely enriching event in regards to my involvement and understanding of our fraternity. The various practices and techniques used throughout the meeting differed greatly from our own. It was enlightening to see how diverse the fraternity is as a whole. There was a very vibrant atmosphere all throughout the proceedings. The energetic actives brought the room to life. They were also respectful and efficient. I am glad I was able to attend and get a sense of how other chapters are run. I learned a lot from them!" See more

|Week 2 Rush Recap| On Monday, 02/12, we prepared and served food to the homeless community at Long Beach Rescue Mission. This service reminds us that every action, no matter how small, matters. On Tuesday, 02/13, we had our Rush Fellowship. We had a lot of fun playing games and learning new dance moves from our bro, Jimmy Cruz! On Thursday, 02/15, was our Bonfire. We bonded around the fire and stuffed ourselves with s'mores. On Friday, 02/16, we ate at Pizza Rev with Alpha... Iota Pledge Class! We are excited to watch them grow in leadership, friendship, and service. That concludes Rush Week! Thank you for all your support
