It was 3 miles of obstacles and tricky terrain around Mare Island, using our logs and mulch as part of the course. We scrambled together a teamthrew on our climber helmets, and somehow placed 3rd! It was way more fun (and challenging) than we expected and will be ready to take the gold next year!... Thanks to all the awesome Mare Island PedalFest coordinators, Mare Island Brewing Co. for the prime location and all delicious food and beer, and RIDE NAPA VALLEY.

This was a removal our A Plus crews did a few years back that naturally caused quite a stir. The Grandfather Oak was estimated to be 309 years old and considered to be the oldest and largest tree in Napa Valley. After several limb failures, numerous Arborist inspections & risk assessment reports the Town Council ultimately decided that for public safety, they to take down this beautiful specimen. As we dismantled this huge, 8ft in diameter, 90+ ft tall Oakthe crews ran in...to extensive decay and multiple beehives, resulting in careful and creative revisions to the job plan. As sad as it was to see this Heritage Oak go, we took much care in the process, were sensitive to the nature of the operation, and honored the Oak in sustainable practices and a thoughtful afterlife. We salvaged as much wood as possible to take back to our mill to be crafted into custom pieces. The crews kept all the beehives intact and transported them to local wineries and we left 13ft of the trunk to remain as a habitat. And the Town of Yountville added a display in memory of their favorite tree. Lastly, a successor is now getting enough light to thrive and carry on the mighty Oak’s legacy. It’s been 20 Years!!!! In honor of this memorable occasion, we’d like to share the heartfelt sentiments from our late founder’s parents: I am thankful that I have been privileged to see a miracle called A Plus. I have heard many rags to riches stories, but I have only witnessed one. I consider it totally awesome to think that 20 years ago A Plus did not exist, except in the mind and heart of Jeremy Tibbets, our founder. ... Jeremy dreamed and desired to have his own company, be his own boss, and help others to achieve their dreams. In June 2001, Jeremy’s dream and desire moved from being an idea and a hope into the world of reality with the creation of A Plus Tree Service. I remember to this day, A Plus Tree Service’s very first job. It was pruning a Purple Plum, trimming a Bottlebrush hedge, and installing a sprinkler system time clock. The crew was Jeremy, two homeless guys, and me with a broken collar bone and broken leg. The equipment was two Poulin chainsaws from Home Depot, borrowed loppers and ladders, and a Stihl hedge trimmer from Aloha Saw. The work vehicle was my Isuzu Trooper and Jeremy’s motorcycle trailer that we welded sides on to hold up the plywood. We worked all day for $600 dollars. Now, 20 years later, all I can say is, WOW! It would take 20 years to express all of my feelings and to thank everyone who has made these years the most exciting ride of my life and Jeremy’s dream a reality. There are a few I have to express my deepest gratitude to. Paula Tibbets, Jeremy’s wife who stood by Jeremy’s side through it all and never gave up. Sarah Gaskin, without her there would be no ArborPlus. Rob Powell, without him Jeremy would have lost a strong right arm. Jorge Ramirez, A Plus’s example of faithfulness and dependability. Sherri Weber for keeping Jeremy on his toes and pushing A Plus to the next level. Finally, to CEO Cyrus DeVere who became a light when A Plus was in its darkest moment (the year our son passed), and VPO Steve Land who flipped his world upside down in order to keep A Plus right side up. As exciting, thrilling, and fun these last 20 years have been I look forward to the next twenty years with even more joy and expectation. It is my personal dream and hope that everyone who contributes to the A Plus dream will experience reciprocal investment in their own life’s dream and hope. Deborah and I miss Jeremy. We miss his laughter and his hugs. That is why we are so glad for the gifts he left us our daughter-in-law, Paula, our four grandchildren, and you the A Plus family. Strange homeowner request: Not a SINGLE leaf on my maples can be harmed when removing that palm.A palm in his backyard fellwithin 30 ft of an energized substation. It had to go. The homeowner is a serious Japanese Maple collector with over 20 species varieties. The one pictured being the biggest and most impressive specimen in his collection. So we built a 15 ft structure for protection. When it came to removal time, as the climber spiked up the trunk, about 10 ft of p...etioles sluffed off and landed on the roof of the structure.Looks like all that work was worth it. Not a single leaf was harmed in the process. One of our own from the Sacramento crew, Adrian, had an idea to rally support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. He lost a family member to breast cancer, and currently has 2 friends battling the disease. This doesn’t just mean something to me, it’s for them. And honestly, I didn’t think anything would come of the idea. I’m so excited that it took off the way that it did and A Plus got behind it so fast. Throughout the month of October, A Plus has been showing our support ...for #breastcancerawarenessmonth with pink and black shirts for all our teams to wear in unison twice a week. Blades up to this super crew right here! Sawing hundreds of thick fronds, in 90 heat while dodging ninja-like spikes should be a sport. They pruned 121 Canary Island Palms by HAND...if you’ve ever had to do this, you know it’s no joke!! More context on the photos: ... A new blade was replaced between each palm. Canary Islands are susceptible to a fatal disease called Fusarium Wilt and can be spread through infected tools. While none of these palms are suspected of having Fusarium Wilt, it’s one further precaution to prevent infection. We also treated and sprayed into the top of the crown for further disease defense and health boost. Shout out to the San Jose crews for such beautiful, and tough, work on these!
