Welcome #Mingei Members! What an honor (and delight) it was to host a Mingei Museum member visit today! While the guests nibbled in fresh strawberries, pastries and coffee, Anne dived right in to a #mokume gane demo and showed annealing, twisting and more. The members had so many great questions and were all so interesting themselves that our visit flew by and we found ourselves not wanting it to end. Thank you so much to the wonderful Claire who put the event together and... to Heather who helped set up. Thanks to the Mingei staffers who came by and special thanks to Rob Sidner the Mingei Director who was so interested in Anne’s work and our little place (not to mention for being such a good sport about getting stuck in my tiny desk - the hotest corner of the Lab!). If you haven’t been already, the @MingeiMuseum is temporarily here @LibertyStation (while their @BalboaPark facility is being renovated) and is really worth a visit. They are a 5 minute walk from the Lab. Boho Bling Earrings & Beyond started today with an eager group led by lapidary artist and silversmith extraordinaire Jeff Fulkerson. It was great fun to learn tips for buying good #cabochons and listen to his fascinating ideas for various stone-on-stone designs, and not just earrings either! I think the process of picking out beautiful stones was the highlight for everyone though.
