So many of us have welcomed a new four legged friend into our homes during this pandemic. The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine has released an article that highlights what you can do to help your pets transition to a more normal lifestyle while many of us return back to offices for work. https://insights.osu.edu/life/coronavirus-pet-anxiety

With a surge of new dogs and puppies being added to the house hold, this web page is great resource to learn how to understand a dog's body language, especially when young children are involved! If you have any questions please call and let us know how we can help! https://positively.com//why-dogs-bite-children-a-lesson-/

NEW LIMITED CONTACT CLIENT PROTOCOL - CORONAVIRUS In light of the current coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, we are stepping up our care as much as possible to help ensure the well-being of our clients and our staff. This includes social distancing to limit foot traffic in and out of our hospital. With this in mind, we have introduced a process where pet owners can feel safe in their cars while we care for their pets. Here’s how it works...... Please call us from the car informing us you have arrived. Only our hospital staff and veterinary patients will be allowed in the hospital while you wait in your vehicles. Please consider bringing a phone charger to use in your car. For appointments: We will ask you to wait in your car for a technician to take your pet into the hospital. Following the doctor’s examination, you will be contacted by phone to consult with the doctor. For pick-up/drop-off appointment (this starts no earlier than 9:00 AM): A staff member will come out to the vehicle with your pet, medications/belongings, and any discharge instructions. For medication and diet pick-up/refill (this starts no earlier than 9:00 AM): A staff member will come out to the vehicle with meds/diets and any instructions. For boarding and new clients: Please fill out the appropriate forms ahead of time. These documents can be accessed on our website under the heading "Client Resources." Personal bedding and toys will not be allowed for boarding. We have blankets and toys at our hospital that we will use. Thank you for helping us do our part in keeping our community stay healthy! Sincerely, Animal Hospital of Irvine

Dear Clients, As veterinarians, a key part of the oath that we took was to protect and promote public health. We at Animal Hospital of Irvine take that oath very seriously and are working to slow the spread of the coronavirus. In an effort to remain open and protect ourselves and the public, we are working within the CDC’s guidelines to keep our clinic and staff free of the virus. We have added additional cleaning procedures such as disinfecting all surfaces more frequently,... especially those touched by members of the public such as door handles and our front counter. We are mopping the floors with disinfectant even more than before as well. We will continue very frequent hand washing, and encourage you to do the same. We will also avoid shaking hands or hugging to prevent viral transmission. We have instructed staff not to come to work if they or someone in their family is sick or has coughing or a fever. We are dedicated to our work, and this is hard but important. Since we are such a small hospital with a small staff this means that we may be short staffed or unable to see appointments some days. Please be patient and understanding if we need to reschedule appointments or schedule further in the future than we usually would. Finally, please do not bring your pet in or come to our animal hospital if you or members of your family have a fever, cough, or cold-like symptoms. Please consult your healthcare provider. If you are ill and your pet is sick, please call us so that we can protect ourselves and send the pet to its appointment with another person. As of now, it seems that animals do not get ill from COVID-19, but can be the vector to transmit the virus, so we would take extra precautions. If you or members of your family are ill, now is not the time to get your pet’s nails trimmed or other routine maintenance. That can be postponed for a couple weeks. We want to be available to help you and your pets now and in the future. Please help us to protect our staff, our families, and our clients who are at increased risk of severe complications. We need to work together to protect everyone. Thank you, Animal hospital of Irvine
