We have Rottie pups!

This time of year, I think of Santos who came to us as a puppy with water on the brain and a spinal distortion so pronounced that he was unable to walk. He was collateral damage in a backyard breeding operation. The vet predicted he had about 4 months to live and suggested euthanasia. Well, Santos surprised everyone when he learned to walk, and even run! He became the greeter at our shelter. And when we moved to Lake County, Santos loved exploring the property, carrying his ...toy along with him. He was a very special boy. Santos showed his joy every day. He smiled all the time! He made the most of a life that could have been too much of a challenge for any of us. After defying his short life expectancy of four months, he lived a rich life with us for four years. Then one morning he didn't wake up. Through my own health challenges, I look to his example: Life is a precious gift...make the most of every day! I will hold him in my heart forever.

Some recent adoptions

In partnership with Albany Subaru, Animal Refugee Response is participating in the national #SubaruLovesPets campaign throughout the month of October. Our goal is to find loving, stable and permanent homes for as many homeless animals as possible. These include puppies, dogs, kittens, cats and #Underdogs: disabled, elderly and otherwise challenged animals waiting for their special person. We will be doing in-person adoptions by appointment all month. And during the week of O...ctober 17-24, we will be doing virtual adoptions, where you can browse, meet, apply for and adopt animals from their computer or phone. Finally, on October 22, which is #MakeADogsDay we will have raffles and giving aways including treat bags and toys with every adoption. It’s is a great time to adopt! Meet Legs, who came in dragging her back legs behind her, and no evidence of feeling in her feet, although they were still warm. Broken back or pelvis we thought, but her x-ray revealed no fractures. So she is getting laser treatments and anti-inflammatories and already there is improvement!
