Fun Fact: Angel Island is a land-bridge island, meaning that it was connected to the mainland during the last ice age. It became an island approximately 12,000 years ago when sea level rose due to natural climate change. Fun Fact Wednesday: The Mexican ownership of Angel Island ended in 1850 when California joined the United States and President Millard Fillmore declared the island a military base. Don Antonio Maria Osio was the only individual to ever own Angel Island.
