Planning a trip to see the snow in Mt. Baldy? Make sure you have a plan. There's no cell service, no gas stations, and traffic will add a couple more hours to your trip. Make sure you have extra blankets, food, and chains for your tires. We want you to make it home safely.
|Press Release| Threat of Wildfire Decreases While Fire Use Restrictions Remain in Place https://go.usa.gov/xAkF4
In an effort to provide #wildfire survivors with resources, FEMA’s Mitigation Community Education Outreach Team has partnered with two Home Depot stores in the Antelope Valley to host an information table on Rebuilding After Fires. More info at https://bit.ly/3qEF7w0
#FlashbackFriday Even though the mannequin challenge has ended, preventing wildfires is still a challenge we all can accept. With a #RedFlagWarning still in place it's important we do our part this weekend to #PreventWildfires. The #AngelesNF is still in EXTREME fire restrictions.
It's #NewYearsEve! While 2020 has been challenging for all, we want to make 2021 better! To do so, we need your help! Remember, lighting fireworks in the forest is prohibited. Please leave them at home. Celebrate with "One Less Spark!"
Mindful Group: Friends and families coming together outdoors is fun. Be mindful of your group’s space and the extra logistics of a group (on trails, at parking lots, in rental shops) and find creative ways to streamline and minimize your impact on others. #RecreateResponsibly www.recreateresponsibly.org/winter
The #AngelesNF has lowered it's fire danger level to "Very High." That means campfires are only allowed in developed campgrounds in a provided fire ring. Camp stoves are permitted with a CA campfire permit. More info: https://go.usa.gov/xAK6K
Due to the #RedFlagWarning, Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Ridge Road will be closed and tentatively scheduled to reopen Wednesday morning October 28. More information at: https://ladpw.org/roadclosures/
Due to the #Christmas Holiday, our offices will be closed starting tomorrow. We will reopen on Monday, 12/28. We wish everyone a happy holiday and hope to see you on the trails soon.
County of Los Angeles is beginning Phase 2 of the Private Property Debris Removal program for those that were affected by the Bobcat and Lake Wildfires. There are 2 options available to survivors in completing Phase 2 of the Private Property Debris Removal program. For more information on how to apply for this program, visit www.dpw.lacounty.gov/rebuild/cleardebris
Thinking about heading out to the forest this weekend? Make sure you #KnowBeforeYouGo. Check Caltrans District 7 Headquarters and Los Angeles County Public Works for any road closures and then make sure you're checking for burned area closures. #HaveAPlan
Check the status: Choose your destination wisely. Have a plan B in case you arrive to find a crowded trailhead or encounter unsafe conditions. Weather can be unexpected and change quickly. Check the mountain passes and forecasts before you set out for a destination, tire chains may be required. Pack your patience - winter conditions can make driving, parking, and traffic more intense. #RecreateResponsibly www.recreateresponsibly.org/winter
TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CRYSTAL LAKE CAMPGROUND Southern California Edison crews are performing work in the Crystal Lake Recreation Area related to Bobcat Fire cleanup efforts. As part of this work, Crystal Lake campground will be closed next week. Work is anticipated to begin Tuesday, October 27. Anyone planning to camp at Crystal Lake this weekend is advised they will be asked to vacate on Monday in order to facilitate this work. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we continue recovery from the Bobcat Fire.
#NationalBioengergyDay Did you know that third of the drinking water in LA County originates in the Angeles NF? What’s more, there are several hydroelectric dams, like San Gabriel Dam (seen below) that produce electricity for LA Metro.
CAN I HAVE A CAMPFIRE OR USE A STOVE ON THE ANF? The fire danger on the Angeles remains at extreme levels. Building or using a fire, campfire or stove fire anywhere in the ANF, even in developed campsites, is prohibited. This restriction is in effect until February 1, 2021.
#FridayFeeling "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." -Lucy Maud Montgomery
IS DISPERSED CAMPING ALLOWED? No. Camping outside of developed campsites or USFS campgrounds is currently not allowed for public and fire safety. The Fire Danger on the ANF remains EXTREME. This is a temporary prohibition, effective through Dec.1, 2020. https://go.usa.gov/x7rJt
While the #BobcatFire burned many areas of the #AngelesNF, many beautiful areas remain untouched. This is due to the dedicated and outstanding work of your Angeles NF, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and other partner agencies. Top: Crystal Lake Bottom: Buckhorn Campground
Over the last couple of days, crews were successful in bringing containment of the #BobcatFire to 95%. Please use caution when traveling in the Mt. Wilson area as your firefighters are still working to repair and mop-up in that area.
Over the coming months, the #BobcatFire Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will ensure that sites like Little Jimmy Trail Camp will be "setup" for successful restoration. They'll accomplish this through removal of hazard trees (eventually planting some) and decreasing the potential for erosion. Learn more about what a BAER does at https://go.usa.gov/x7CyC

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all." -Stanley Horowitz Monte Cristo Campground
HOW LARGE ARE THE AREAS EFFECTED BY THE CLOSURE? Wildfires during the 2020 Fire Season burned over 151,622 acres (237 sq. miles), out of the ANF’s total 655,387 acres (1,024 sq. miles). Approx. 23 percent of the ANF burned. Much of which is now under an extended public safety closure.
