I attended my first court appearance via Zoom last week. Until then, I had never heard of Zoom. Thank goodness for my wife and IT manager for our office, who set it up for me. It wasn't too bad. We will staff our office and return to [almost] normal operations on June 1. We will have safety protocols in place for employees to work together. I have a small office so we have to take special precautions in order to keep our distance from each other. We have been using Microsof...t Teams to conduct meetings, share documents and chat. We will continue to use Teams in the office and refrain from face to face meetings unless absolutely necessary. We will not be conducting face to face meetings/consultations with clients for a while. We are working on setting up a video consult location for potentially new and existing clients who do not have Zoom to communicate via video conference. The location will be cleaned after every consultation. We have a lot of work ahead of us to try and get operations back up and running as normal as possible. Our clients deserve attention on their cases from the courts and from their lawyer. Let's get this ball rolling again.

Sofia Koch | Credit: Courtesy By Jean Yamamura Thu May 21, 2020 | 5:15pm Nineteen-year-old Sofia Koch turned herself in to the Santa Barbara Police Department yesterday for the one-vehicle crash on Cliff Drive on May 7. Accompanied by her attorney, Koch admitted to police that she had driven the purple Land Rover at 1 a.m., which struck two cars and a concrete wall, and seriously injured her passenger. They were both cut out of the car by firefighters. The name of her passenger has not been officially released, but the young woman’s family has started a GoFundMe page for her extensive medical needs. Charges against Koch include driving under the influence, joyriding, driving without a license, going more than 30 mph over the speed limit, and felony great bodily injury. She was apparently allowed to go on her own recognizance as she is not being held in County Jail.

The family of the 21 year old passenger may be entitled to compensation from the insurance company of the driver or the driver for wrongful death. Santa Barbara Man, 21, Killed in Collision on 154... The Santa Barbara Independent Fri Apr 10, 2020 | 3:30pm On Thursday evening, 22-year-old Goleta resident Brian Dul was driving eastbound on State Route 154 with a 21-year-old passenger when Dul reportedly swerved into the westbound lane of traffic, colliding with a truck driven by a 59-year-old man and carrying a 52-year-old female passenger, both from Long Beach. In the ensuing collision, the truck’s occupants both sustained minor injuries, and the passenger was taken to Cottage Hospital. Dul sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The passenger in Dul’s car, a 21-year-old Santa Barbara man, was also taken to the hospital and died from the injuries he sustained in the crash. The collision is still under investigation, but officers reported that Dul was under the influence at the time of the incident and was placed under arrest for a DUI felony and causing injury. The California Highway Patrol is encouraging those with any information regarding this collision, or the events leading up to it, to get in touch with the CHP at (805) 967-1234.

Our firm receives several calls per month looking for a medical malpractice attorney and the majority of them are turned away.
