Here are a few ideas to support our robust agricultural community this winter: Buy holiday gifts from local farmers. Whether it’s jellies, syrups, or shrubs or flavored sea salt from Lockewood Acres, or olive oil from Katz Farm, there are many gift options to choose from! Try Full Belly Farm, Lockewood Acres, Eatwell Farm or Wilkinson Acres. Buy local yarn to knit or crochet your next creation with yarn from the wool of local Vacaville sheep. Teach a young person to knit or crochet (masked-up, of course) and explain where the woolen yarn came from and why you bought it locally. Try Meridian Jacobs and Menagerie Hill Ranch. Seek out local meat and turkey for your holiday table. Try Five Dot Ranch, Grabish Farms, Nature’s Bounty, or Stoneroot Field and Sea. Support farming families affected by the COVID pandemic and recent fires through direct donations and strong local support through purchases. Senate Bill 442 went into effect January 1, 2018 swimming pools must have at least two of the following for pool safety. State Law 1. An enclosure that isolates... the swimming pool or spa from the private single-family home. 2. Removable mesh fencing that meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Specifications F2286 standards in conjunction with a gate that is self-closing and self-latching and can accommodate a key lockable device. 3. An approved safety pool cover 4. Exit alarms on the private single-family home’s doors that provide direct access to the swimming pool or spa. The exit alarm may cause either an alarm noise or a verbal warning, such as a repeating notification that the door to the pool is open. 5. A self-closing, self-latching device with a release mechanism placed no lower than 54 inches above the floor on the private single-family home’s doors providing direct access to the swimming pool or spa. 6. An alarm that, when placed in a swimming pool or spa, will sound upon detection of accidental or unauthorized entrance into the water. The alarm shall meet and be independently certified to the ASTM Standard F2208 Standard Safety Specification for Residential Pool Alarms, which includes surface motion, pressure, sonar, laser, and infrared type alarms. A swimming protection alarm feature designed for individual use, including an alarm attached to a child that sounds when the child exceeds a certain distance or becomes submerged in water, is not a qualifying drowning prevention safety feature. 7. Other means of protection, if the degree of protection afforded is equal to or greater than that afforded by any of the features set forth above and has been independently verified by an approved testing laboratory as meeting standards for those features established by the ASTM or the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). California State Law effective July 1, 2019 requires that when a new garage door or new door opener is installed in a residence that a battery back up function ...also be installed in case of a power failure. This bill prohibits installation of a door or opener without such a device. Failure to follow this will result in a civil penalty of $1000.00 per opener installed and operational. See more

Community Wildfire Assessment conducted in March 2020 by the Green Valley Fire Safe Council in partnership with CAL FIRE, Cordelia Fire Protection District, and... community members/youth from Boy Scout Troop 8864. Together we assessed nearly 450 properties. Next step is to apply to become a designated Fire Wise site, and apply for grant funding to remove fuel in the area. Stay tuned for more information.
