Ancient Oak Cellars Rosé, Siebert Ranch is beauty, defiance and grace. In hard times it's even more important to seek out beauty. Allow me to share some. This beautiful rosé is a special bottle, itself born out of hardship. The wine was made from the little fruit that remained hanging after the 2017 wildfires destroyed most of the rest of the vineyard. The Ancient Oak that centers this former homestaed survived. As it has for generations. The resilience of the people of wine country is a testament to their continued unbridled spirit. It is present in the fabric of this wine.The wine is soft and linear at the same time. Commanding as it is simple. A rose gold, tarnished copper, light burnt orange, faint peach color of a wine. Again, English is limiting. This is a high acid gulp of California wild flowers and seaside fresh herbs. Some underripe stone fruit and grapefruit hibusis tea. Surprising structure comes out when you least expect it and you go in for more. A perfect Thanksgiving selection. A rosé built for food. All the food. A truly "clean" wine. While I'm at it... let me reclaim that nugget for our side. Hand crafted and un-fooled around with by the incomparable Greg LaFollette. I strongly believe that good folks make better wine.
