It has been warm here in the Bay Area . If you find yourself getting out of the house to enjoy some sunshine - make sure to put on some sunscreen. It’s also our number one recommendation for our facial rejuvenation patients as well! As we all know, the sun can cause damage to the skin in the form of discoloration, dark spots, sun burns, sagging or wrinkling of the skin and even cancer! While no sunscreen can block 100% of the UVA & UVB rays from the sun, you should use a ph...ysical (not chemical) broad spectrum protection (working against both UVA and UVB rays) with at least an SPF level of 30 (which helps block 97% of the sun's UVB rays). We like the following brands: Beauty Counter: Countersun Collection Coola Drunk Elephant: Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SFP 30 #acupuncture #facialrejuvenation #tcm #sunscreen #organic #organicskincare #sffidi #naturalmedicine #chinesemedicine @ Anchor Acupuncture & Wellness

Adaptogens! Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, you probably heard about adaptogens and how they help combat stress. But what are adaptogens and how exactly do they help with stress? Adaptogens are non-toxic plant matter (ranging from roots to leaves to stems) that have a long history of use in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurvedic Medicine. We loved what Dr. Brenda Powell, co-medical director of the Center for Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine at the Cl...eveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute had to say in an article published in TIME magazine about adaptogens: Adaptogens may do for your adrenal glands what exercise does for your muscles, Powell says. When we exercise, it’s a stress on our body. But as we continue to train and exercise, our body becomes better at dealing with the stress of it, so we no longer get as tired or have as high a heart rate, she says. When you take adaptogens, meanwhile, you’re training your body to handle the effects of stress. We have our own blend that includes a mix of nine (9) different adaptogens for our patients. We are seeing patients in the clinic again- you can book through the link in our bio. #tcm #sffidi #naturalmedicine #adaptogen #adaptogenicherbs #chinesemedicine #herbalmedicine #acupuncture #openforbusiness #fertility

As apart of our new physically distant but socially connected campaign, we want you to MEET JANET! Some of you may not have had the pleasure of interacting with Janet so we wanted to take a moment of your time to highlight this wonderful woman. Janet is the Anchor Acupuncture & Wellness Office Administrator/Manager Extraordinaire! She supports us from afar in Wisconsin by helping patients schedule appointments, placing herbal orders, sending emails, answering questions and b...asically doing whatever it takes to keep Anchor going. This all makes her very awesome (plus the fact that she went shark cage diving in Cape Town, SA) and appreciated by all of us but not only is she doing all this, she is also homeschooling three of her four kids (like many of you during Covid-19). Learn more about Janet in our stories. #tcm #acupuncture #traditionalmedicine #meetus #sffidi #womanowned #herbalmedicine #naturalmedicine #chinesemedicine #fertility #covid19 #shelterinplace #healing #sociallyconnected

Feeling restless or overstimulated at bed time? Difficulty getting deep sleep? Try soaking your feet in a small tub of hot water (with ankles submerged), 30 minutes before going to sleep. In the last few weeks, screen time has inevitably gone up as we rely on our computers and phones to stay connected. Staring at a screen, straining our eyes, thinking for long periods of time, brings energy up to the head. When this sort of strain occurs for extended periods of time, energy s...tagnates there, leading to an overactive mind, restlessness in the body, and difficulty sleeping. Soaking your feet in hot water dilates the blood vessels in your feet and thus draws blood flow and energy down back towards your feet. By doing so, you are also stimulating the acupuncture point, Kidney 1 Yongquan, an incredibly calming and grounding point located on the bottom of the foot. If you're needing some extra support during shelter in place, you can also schedule a virtual appointment with Amanda or Coreen. They can help with anxiety, stress, fertility, insomnia, digestive problems, as well as offer general advice around how to keep you and your family's immunity strong during this time. What is something you can do while sheltering in place for your fertility? Start charting your basal body temperature. Basal Body Temperature (BBT) shows the temperature of the body upon waking. It is called such because it is measured at a time when the body is deeply rested and the body’s metabolism and temperature is at its baseline. A woman’s BBT should rise after she has ovulated. We advise most of our fertility patients to get a BBT thermometer and start charting t...heir cycles. It not only gives our patients a better idea of when they should try to conceive, but for us as practitioners, an intimate look at how your cycle is unfolding, and how your lifestyle and other events are affecting your cycle. It is one more diagnostic tool that enables us to tailor treatment specifically to you. #chinesemedicine #fertility #acupuncture #san francisco #intergratedmedicine #alternativemedicine #wellness #traditionalchinesemedicine #tcm

"Amanda is absolutely amazing! She has an incredibly intuitive medical sense that is unlike anything I have seen from a medical professional. Her eastern medicine diagnosis was spot on and she helped identify and fix things that my western doctors couldn't touch. She has an impeccable bedside manner, is very knowledgeable in her craft and is an overall wonderful doctor. I have recommended her to countless friends and acquaintances."... - Posted on Google Reviews by a very happy patient

If you have not already met the acupressure point Shen Men, here's a little introduction. Often called the Gate of Heaven this point is quite effective for calming our mind and nervous system (especially useful today when attempting to grapple with what happened in New Zealand) Doing acupressure on yourself is a form of self care and love. The point is located in the inner part of the upper ear shell, and with small friction it is easily activated. INSTRUCTIONS:... Press this point with an ear swab or a clean finger and start massaging gently. Breathe deeply and listen to your respiration. While inhaling look left, and during exhaling look right, but without moving the head. Gradually you will feel your body relaxing, and the symptoms of stress reducing. TIP: You can massage the point of the ear with the tip of your fingers. Massage the point whenever you feel that you are under a lot of stress. This process can be repeated every day before going to bed. Conclusion: Giving yourself a little ear massage on your Gate of Heaven acn significantly reduce stress. Our bodies are amazing.
