Trance, an 8 year old handsome and noble Great Dane, has been our patient since we first opened our doors. He has been through so much over the years and has bounced back from it all. He recently came to us in critical condition. After running some emergency diagnostics, Dr. Lee rushed Trance into surgery to remove a ruptured spleen. Trance made it out of surgery and after a large blood transfusion to replenish the 4 LITERS of blood he lost, he pulled through like a champ! Seeing his tail wag as he headed home was EVERYTHING to us! In every surgery the possibility of complications exist. While the surgeon plans and prepares for such risks, there are situations that cannot be predicted. After a very risky cystotomy to remove bladder stones, Mia still displayed trouble urinating and became very bloated. Dr. Min her surgeon, discovered a leak in her bladder had created a uroabdomen. She rushed Mia into emergency surgery. It turned out Mia’s bladder was so friable that her sutures from the original surgery did not hold as they should have. Fortunately Dr. Min’s quick actions saved Mia’s life.. and after a second surgery, careful monitoring and aggressive supportive care Mia is back home and doing fantastic! #cystotomy #exploratorylaparotomy #uroabdomen #veterinarymedicine #animalclinic #norwalkandsurroundingareas #pethospital

Chulo is going home today! After having reoccurring urinary obstructions, Dr. Lee determined Chulo would benefit from a surgical procedure called Perineal Urethrostomy (also known as PU). This surgery consists of opening up the urethra and using that as the new opening for urine to pass. Urinary obstruction can be a life threatening emergency. Symptoms include but are not limited to: straining/frequent/inappropriate/painful urination, bloody urine. WARNING: EXCESSIVE HEAT EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND! Please keep your pets safe. We all know the dangers of leaving your pet in a car, however we must also be careful walking them on hot pavement. If you walk your pet on pavement, try this simple test: Place your hand on the ground, and if you can’t keep it there for 5 seconds, then it’s too hot for your dog. Stick to grassy areas, take later evening walks, use paw wax or wear summer booties like our friend Whiskey here! The goal is to protect your pet from this heat.
