This was 4 years ago. Despite finding high levels of toxic PCBs in the school’s building material, the district claimed they were confident they were following the law. It took a Federal Judge to convince them that they were not following the law and toxic PCBs could not remain in a school building. Since then the district has found more illegal levels of PCBs in building materials all over the school and in the soil. We can’t blindly trust those in charge. Another school district failing to timely inform parents and teachers that PCBs were found in the soil. But 13 months later when the school district tested the air, they closed the school for the rest of the year when high levels were found to prevent any further exposure to students and staffa step in the right direction!

Seven years ago when teachers were getting sick and the School district would not test Malibu High for PCB’s, America Unites work to educate the community and the US on the dangers of PCB‘s in schools. Six years ago, #MariaShriver and Cindy Crawford went on the Today Show to help to shed light on this important issue. Now seven years later, many of the PCB contaminated buildings have been removed from the Malibu schools. There are few remaining that still need to be addressed: the theater, music room, art, woodshop, and the old gym. On a larger scale, the House passed The re-open and rebuild America’s schools act of 2020 to modernize school facilities that pose a health and safety risk to children This act specifically includes PCB’s. The efforts at Malibu High will now positively impact all children across America.
