Walked into a customer site today (Saturday ugh!!) To the smell of burning electronics really hoped it was the business next door. Nope laser arched the saddles between two lanes time to call on the laser expert. Amazing how 20,000 volts can find a path to ground

The next time you think you can fix the machine yourself consider how long it might take you. I have seen customers spend over a week working on a problem that I fixed in about an hour.

I have worked for data technology/Gerber for 20 years and now have started my own service business for data tech/Gerber sample tables. things you need to keep in mind is serviceability, availability of parts, where is the service person coming from, what is it going to cost you to get them there, do they charge for phone support, is the equipment still on there service list, some companies stop servicing equipment after a certain amount of time, what the electrical requirements are and do you have the electrical necessary to run the table, air compressor requirements, and is the CAD system you are using compatible with the table you are considering

Two years ago today was my last day with Gerber technology. Most people say "and I never looked back" I look back constantly and think why did I stay so long? Oh yea health insurance and child support and it was a very scary thought of not having that paycheck every two weeks. So happy I put on my big boy pants and ventured out.

An email in the life of a technician Customer: We are having a problem with our table again. I'm hoping it is a quick fix.... I using the table for the first time today. I started it up and it was referencing. The table moved all the way forward from the retracted position. As it was referencing off to the left-side of the table I broke the safety beam. Now I get a Y-Axis fault when trying to reference it. I've manually moved the head around and restarted everything several times but it still gets that Y-Axis fault. Opening the electrical panel, everything is green when the machine is on. It stays green when referencing begins (the head slowly rises about 1/2") but faults out as soon as the table goes to move to the reference position. Please let me know what you think Me: Sorry I missed your call turn the machine off then push the roller switches that are at the front of the machine between the silver rods up and down several times then turn the machine on again and try and reference the machine unfortunately I will be unavailable the rest of today but will be available by phone on Monday Customer: Thanks Dennis, that worked. How did you know that would work, besides trial and error troubleshooting and luck? Me: I've been doing this for 20 years and I was #1 at Gerber on those machines
