The DDBA is happy to give a plug for an interactive community art project called Healing Art that is organized by NJ Mvondo, a local artist, social entrepreneur... & community organizer. Healing Art explores art as a medium that doesn’t just have the power to bring the community together, but to help with our healing journey, too. The Healing Art exhibit will be a collaboration between local artists, local residents and downtown Davis businesses. 1. Local artists are invited to answer the question: What heals? Or What does healing look like to you? 2. The artists reply using their medium of choice: a painting, a photograph, a collage, etc. 3. The artwork is printed and prints are shared on the windows of downtown Davis stores for residents to enjoy while walking downtown, during the day. They’re taped down using invisible, double sided tape with no damages or traces left to the property. 4. This is an interactive exhibit. While the artists will be creating their vision of healing, the residents will be invited to offer one-sentence answers to two writing prompts: What change would you like to see in the world right now? and Share a word of encouragement for those needing it. 5. The residents’ answers will be shared in the exhibit. 6. Volunteer photographers (local residents) will take pictures of the installations (artwork and residents’ responses). The pictures will be shared online in a virtual showroom, making the exhibit accessible to the residents who can’t leave their homes. 7. Online viewers will be invited to answer, in one sentence, the prompts: What change would you like to see in the world right now? And Share a word of encouragement with those needing it. 8. The viewers’ answers will be curated to filter for trolls’ activity, and to keep the platform friendly to all. The answers will roll on the viewer’s screen, with new answers added throughout the duration of the exhibit as people respond. DO YOU OWN A DOWNTOWN STOREFRONT? WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER WINDOW SPACE FOR THIS INSPIRATIONAL PROJECT? Contact NJ at [email protected]
