Telling someone that one is in recovery doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing process. Different relationships may require different amounts of information. Admitting that one is in recovery can be as simple as I’m really trying not to drink anymore and have that be the extent of the information.

Words are a tricky thing, aren’t they? What is being talked about and how it is being said are two vastly different things that each hold their own power. Inappropriately addressing an important topic is going to be detrimental to the conversation and relationship. Likewise, addressing an inappropriate issue can cause harm, regardless of how tactful the words chosen may have been. Tone and content need to work hand in hand to create a cohesive, proper message. The way we speak and the words we choose (including personal mannerisms and speech patterns) all hold a critical weight. The effects are irreversibly felt by the listener.

By the time a patient walks into the office, even for their initial intake, the session is already going. Each detail of the environment, from posters on the wall to knick-knacks on the desk, impacts a patient’s willingness to share and engage. Naturally, sharing and engaging is essential before any real healing can even begin.

Sober parties provide a way for people to experience all the norms of going out with friends while remaining on the path to sobriety. Sober parties are without the influence and presence of alcohol or drugs. They typically avoid paraphernalia and maintain focus on the food or activities planned. Creating this space provides many advantages to people in recovery, as well as friends and loved ones who are not on a recovery path

Recovery is a word quite used to describe alcohol and drug rehabilitation. There is a notion that going to recovery will make one better and grant the skills to acknowledge and combat addiction. But recovery looks different depending on each individual person

Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Such a phrase is all too well known by this point, and it’s not even limited to rock and roll music anymore. No matter what music you’re into, you’re likely to run into many references to alcohol and drugs. To single out the rock and roll genre specifically would be unfair to all of the other types, which are all, in some way, guilty of much of the same thing.
