We talked about IEP’s today on my live & my work as an IEP advocate, and I find it essential for parents/legal guardians to know this. If your school isn’t foll...owing your child’s current IEP, you can file a complaint with the state. My mom did this with me as a child, as they weren’t meeting my needs nor following it. She filed a complaint to the state, and that’s when my school's office was filled with people because she called. The school then called her and said, We are giving you everything you want from Jordan. I learned from the best. #iepadvocate See more

This is strange because a school’s #spelling programme *should* build seamlessly onto its phonics programme. SUPERB See more

Also true for NYS - we need all parents and stakeholders to become involved however possible to ensure students are being taught to read and not guess at words.... Please speak up at your schools and ask questions abput reading programs and strategies in place. Pleaae consider writing letters to your school superintendents and BOE as well. Make sure reading instruction is based on the Science of Reading - structured literqcy. From Decoding Dyslexia CA Two big events in the reading world, over the last few weeks, have made clear that, "in the end, parental demand for effective reading instruction may be the most potent long-term lever for change." This article sums up the viral videos made by one California mom and the admission by curriculum author Lucy Calkins that her materials are flawed. Decoding Dyslexia CA, we need your support now more than ever to bridge the gap between research and teaching practice! All children deserve to be taught how to read!
