On Thursday I answered the phone at my salon and this lovely women said she saw my story on the news. She said she wanted to donate money to my small business that is struggling as we enter our 3rd closure of this pandemic. With a broken back she drove to my salon and wrote me a check for $1,200. I started crying. I was in shock. She told me this was her stimulus money. She said her life has not changed. She did not need the stimulus money from the government. She said God t...old her to give it to someone in need. Once she saw my story she said God told her to bless me with the money. I am forever grateful. Although I need it, I know there are so many other people struggling as well and am not sure how I deserve this gift. I was at a point of losing all hope in humanity. This pandemic has wreaked havoc on our community. This generous gift from a stranger has restored my faith that we will all once again live in peace with thy neighbor. If you have the means I encourage you do something nice for someone this holiday season. Especially patronizing small businesses. We are the heart of this city. Once again my business is forced to close.I have done everything asked of me to make sure I am compliant to the Covid-19 guidelines. I will comply to this closure to ensure the safety of our community, but the government is not helping small businesses like they say. Sacramento will reach triple digit temperatures outside over the next week and salons are forced to work outside. Governor Gavin Newsom I ask you how this is sa...fe? I find it appalling the Mayor of Sacramento Darrell Steinberg is providing cooling centers around our city, yet salons will still need to continue providing limited services outside in this heat wave. How are these cooling centers safe inside yet, the beauty industry governed by the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology require the most strict rules and regulations regarding sanitation and disinfection. This was my comment to First Partner Jennifer Newsom’s post on Self-Care Sunday. Hi Jennifer! I hope you had an amazing Self-Care Sunday. This post resonated w...ith me more than you will ever know. You are so right how important self care is. Self care promotes health and wellness, reduces anxiety, fills the void on the inside, stabilizes mental health, and well most important makes us look great and feel good on the outside. I am your former neighbor. All though we never met, I enjoyed watching your children play outside when you lived across the street from my salon. I own Allure Salon and Spa across the street from the Governor’s Mansion located at 815 16th Street Sacramento California. Jennifer, you deem your life essential, correct? Of course you would agree your children’s lives are essential, correct? Well, so do I. I deem my life essential. I deem my children’s lives essential. Actually, I deem every life essential, yet your husband, our Governor, deems my career non essential. Which means my life, nor my children’s lives are essential since he has mandated the closure of my salon for the 2nd time without warning or data to justify a second closure. We did contact tracing like we were required, yet no one from the Governor’s task force collected the data. If no data was collected from salons how did your husband justify salon closures? Jennifer, Salons are not the problem. We have been trained for 1600 hours mainly on disinfection and sanitation. The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology state exam is primarily about disinfection and sanitation. We have been trained for this very moment. A moment that I wish never arose but here we are in a pandemic with an invisible virus. Your husband’s brilliant idea of allowing us to cut hair outside is not sanitary. You lived on the street my salon is located for a brief moment. Would you want to have your hair cut on 16th Street with the homeless and mentally ill people that can not be controlled to social distance or enforce a mask to walk by while you ooze sweat from every orifice in 100 degree heat? Well, that is exactly how I spent my Self-Care Sunday. I had the privilege to cut hair outside my salon. 11 1/2 years ago I built my 3rd salon in this location I bought a portion of the building and designed one of the most beautiful, clean, and sanitary salons I’ve ever seen. I’d love to give you a tour sometime. Jennifer, I did everything your husband requested of a Californian citizen. I sip. I closed my business twice. I believed him when he said he would lead by health and science. I did everything he requested of me as a citizen who resides in the state he leads. I spent $10k to make sure I went above and beyond his guidelines to reopen my salon. I installed social distancing panels between each station, I had the air ducts cleaned and disinfected, I had the HVAC system cleaned and disinfected, I installed the highest grade hepa filters, I had my salon repainted with a high grade paint, and I bought all the ppe required to keep my guests and staff safe. I never received any of these so called forgivable loans. I was also the victim of 3 separate break in’s to my salon, one during these so called peaceful protests. Jennifer, my industry is suffering. Salon owners and beauty professionals are losing their businesses, losing their homes, losing everything we have all worked so hard for. The majority of salon owners and beauty professionals are women. Many of us are single moms or the sole provider for our families. We call on you First Partner! We need your help. Jennifer, all of us hairstylists know you have continued to get your hair cut and colored because it looks beautiful even during the mandated closure of salons. We all know your roots do not grow out that beautiful blond color. I don’t blame you for getting your hair done. It makes us look and feel good. Did you know it is illegal for hairstylists to do house calls? We could lose our license if we do not abide by the boards rules and regulations. Your husband is forcing hairstylists to go rouge and work illegally by doing house calls to support their livelihoods. You wouldn’t willingly put a hairstylists license in jeopardy by requesting services to be provided to you and your family in your home, right? If this mandate continues it will destroy the beauty industry. A multi-billion dollar industry. We are safer inside our sanitary salons were we can control the environment. I would agree with your husband’s mandate on the 2nd closure if non essential businesses were treated fair. Why can you get Botox, have laser hair removal, have your teeth cleaned, go clothes shopping, go to a strip club and have a lap dance? What makes these businesses safer than salons? Why are they allowed to be open and salons are not? We deserve answers. We have been neglected. There are 621,000 licensed beauty professionals that need to go back to work in their salons. Guess what? This would definitely help your husband with the lack of money for a second round of unemployment. Jennifer, this message was written with heart and soul from one mother to another. Private shampoo bowl may be added per your request. During quarantine Allure Salon and Spa has been very busy preparing for the return to our establishment. We have repainted the entire salon with a high grade paint to help prevent virus contamination. We have deep cleaned the salon, we have cleaned and disinfected all of the air ducts and HVAC system including adding high end hepa air filters. Over the past week I have been preparing Allure Salon and Spa’s Grand Reopening after being mandated to be closed by Governor Newsom for over 2 months due to Co...vid-19. I repainted the salon, had the air ducts and HVAC system cleaned and disinfected, new hepa high grade filters, floor professional deep cleaned, the entire salon was deep cleaned, I added social distancing panels between each station and shampoo area to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. Sunday night I left the salon with a few details to finish on Monday only to be the victim of looting. After being up all night Sunday trying to protect the salon from any more damage and theft, I felt defeated. I wanted to give up. This was all so overwhelming. I could not believe our beautiful city had been destroyed. Early Monday morning my heart was filled by seeing some members of our community come to help clean up our city. I had numerous calls and messages from friends, clients, and strangers offering to help clean up the salon. My staff and I worked extremely hard to get the salon cleaned up from all the mess. I have so much gratitude for the love, support, and help. With the strict guidelines to reopen salons to protect our guests we were able to get the salon completed. Tuesday we were able to open our doors however this was not how I envisioned our salon looking for our reopening with wood boards on the windows.
