Happy International Women's Day! Today marks the global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It’s also serves as a yearly call to action to continue to work toward gender parity. This year’s theme is #ChoosetoChallenge and here is the idea behind it as described on @internationalwomensday_global’s website: A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every ...day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge. We think that’s great inspiration for every day, not just today. Every year at this time in Mendoza, Argentina we celebrate the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia, the National Grape Harvest Festival. This year we’ll be celebra...ting virtually, but typically this is a multi-day celebration with origins that date back to the 20th Century. There is always a parade called the Carrousel Vendimial that begins at the gates of San Martín park (pictured here) which features floats and performances by gauchos, indigenous communities, dancers representing various provinces of Argentina, as well as other Latin American Countries, and beauty queens chosen from each of Mendoza’s 18 departments. It is always a beautiful, colorful display of many facets of our culture. We’ll miss celebrating in person this year, but look forward to when we can all get together again! . . Todos los años, para ésta época, en Mendoza (Argentina) celebramos la Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia. Este año la celebración será virtual, pero tradicionalmente el festejo duraba varios días, con varios eventos, que se vienen llevando a cabo desde principios del siglo XX. El Carrusel Vendimial es uno de estos eventos tradicionales, que transcurre en la mañana empezando su recorrido en las puertas del Parque General San Martín (como lo muestra la foto). Es un desfile de carrozas que están acompañadas de actuaciones de gauchos, comunidades aborígenes, y bailarines que representan no solo a otras provincias argentinas sino también a países latinoamericanos. Las carrozas transportan a las reinas elegidas de cada uno de los 18 departamentos de Mendoza, junto a su corte. Siempre es un hermoso y colorido evento multi-cultural. Yesterday's NYT story about the Court of Master Sommeliers and the cases brought to light by the women who came forward to share abuses was cracking the door open to let light in on a dark subject that has plagued the wine industry for far too long. Not unique to the world of wine, but decidedly more prevalent, it's time that this inexcusable behavior is addressed and that the words Code of Conduct are respected, not ignored. We are so excited for and proud of CCA team member Izak Redelinghuys (@izakredelinghuys). Zak competed in a reality TV food competition series in South Africa called ANNSIT on @viatv ! In each episode, South African Celebrity chef, Reuben Riffel (@chefreubenriffel ), challenges a trio of home cooks to come up with a restaurantquality menu. He’s joined by some of South Africa’s top chefs to judge the contestants in their own homes. Each team must create a food experience t...hat will overwhelm the senses of the judges to secure a spot in the finals. The top two teams will battle it out in Reuben’s professional kitchen at Reuben’s and Co Cafe, located inside the Cape winelands luxury lifestyle estate, Val de Vie. There were 12 teams in total and two teams will battle it out in the final, which will air on Oct 23rd.
