~St. Francis of Assisi~ St. Francis was born Francesco Bernadone in 1182 and died in 1226. In her book My God and My All, Elizabeth Goudge wrote He lived eight centuries ago and he died in early middle age, yet few of us in the Western World, even if we know little about him, are not unaware of him. Like a fresh stream springing up in the desert he is the source of so many good things. His influence upon European music, art, drama and politics has been a study for many ...scholars, yet it is as a Christian that he matters to us, as a humble poor man who set himself to tread as closely as he could in the footsteps of Christ, St. Francis was a friar and deacon and is called a reformer of the Church. He was the founder of the Franciscan Friars, the Poor Clare’s and the Third Order of St. Francis. Peace Prayer of Saint Francis Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much see to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
