The Senate FASTER act is now under consideration by the House. If it passes and becomes law, it would allocate additional federal funding for food allergy research and require sesame to be listed as an allergen on food labels. #foodallergy #sesame #allergist #FASTER #allergies #research

New series: Provider Spotlight where we introduce you to our wonderful allergists at AAMG! Meet Dr. Nancy Broitman Mozelsio! Dr. Mozelsio is one of our providers and partners here at AAMG. She has been with the practice for 19 years! She sees patients at our Walnut Creek location.... Dr. Mozelsio went to medical school at UC Irvine and completed her residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. She now lives in Walnut Creek with her dogs and her recent college-graduate son. Before attending medical school, Dr. Mozelsio was a clinical lab scientist for several years and collaborated on HIV studies. Dr. Mozelsio grew up with allergies and asthma which inspired her to help others with these conditions. She enjoys all aspects of being an allergist and loves that she gets to treat patients of all ages. She finds it very rewarding to be able to know and care for multiple generations of the same family, since it is more common for children of parents with allergies to have allergies themselves. If Dr. Mozelsio could tell every allergy and asthma patient one thing, it's that: "Allergic conditions do not have to rule your life. You can do almost anything you set your sights on with the treatments we have available these days." When she's not working, she loves to express her creative side by crocheting and making jewelry. She also loves to garden and snuggle with her dogs. Fun fact: One of her dog's names is Special Agent Dale Cooper (from the cult TV show Twin Peaks). #allergist #immunologist #AAMG #asthma #girlboss #womeninstem

Did you know that 50% to 75% of individuals with an allergy to birch pollen will also develop an itchy throat or mouth if they eat raw celery or apple? This is because of Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS), also known as Pollen Fruit Syndrome (PFS), where proteins in certain foods confuse the immune system and elicit an allergic response. If you experience allergy symptoms when eating foods that spread beyond your mouth and throat, please contact your doctor immediately. This could... be a sign of anaphylaxis. Hand sanitizer is a great hand hygiene substitute when soap and water aren't readily available. When purchasing hand sanitizer, please check the ingredients on the bottle to make sure it doesn't contain methanol, which can be dangerous if ingested or absorbed through the skin. #staysafe #handsanitizer #covid19

If you're living with #asthma, now is more important than ever to keep it under control (https://www.allergicliving.com//coronavirus-asthma-how-to/). While no data suggests that people with asthma are more likely to catch COVID-19, "people with moderate to severe asthma may be at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 (https://www.cdc.gov//20/need-extra-precautions/asthma.html)." In addition to following suggested protocols including avoiding close contact with o...thers, disinfecting surfaces, wearing a face covering and washing hands frequently, it is important for people with asthma to keep their symptoms under control. Follow the tips above to be as prepared as possible and call us at (925) 327-1460 if you would like to see one of our specialists to treat your asthma or allergies. As always, if you're concerned you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your healthcare provider. #staysafe
