During the pandemic, people moved away from San Francisco, and the ensuing demand for rental units in neighboring cities kept the rents up. Not anymore, as rent prices are in a state of malaise everywhere and Oakland cannot buck the trend.

Loma Prieta Earthquake. Today marks 31 years since the Loma Prieta earthquake shook the Bay Area on October 17, 1989. Do you remember where you were? TIME: Octo...ber 17, 1989 / 5:04 pm PST MAGNITUDE: 6.9 The Loma Prieta earthquake occurred in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. It is popularly nicknamed the World Series Quake because it occurred during the World Series, which happened to match up the Bay Area's two Major League Baseball teams. The earthquake lasted for 15 seconds Portion of the Cypress Street Viaduct, Interstate 880, in Oakland collapsed. For many Bay Area residents, the Loma Prieta earthquake is an unforgettable moment in time. The magnitude-6.9 temblor killed 63 people. Game 3 of the World Series between the Oakland A’s and the San Francisco Giants was about to begin when the shaking started. The series then was delayed for 10 days, and the A’s claimed the championship in a four-game sweep on Oct. 28. The 1989 Loma Prieta event originated on an undiscovered oblique-slip reverse fault that is located adjacent to the San Andreas Fault. https://www.facebook.com/groups/sanjosevalleyorchards/

Per Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the orange skies today are a result of wildfire smoke in the air. Strong winds over the past few days transported ...ash from fires in northern California and the Sierra Nevada into the region. These smoke particles scatter blue light and only allow yellow-orange-red light to reach the surface, causing skies to look yellow or orange. Although the skies show a yellow or orange hue, you may not smell smoke when you step outside, and air quality may remain at 'moderate' levels. This is because the smoke is staying above the marine layer, and the smoke is not able to mix down, protecting us from poor air quality. See more

I wanted to share these photos of the aftermath of the Canoe Creek Fire in Humboldt Redwoods. This fire took place in 2006 and at the time was the largest fire in the og coast redwoods in modern history. It scorched crowns and blackened trunks as well. 14 years later and the place looks spectacular. Yes large trees fell over many months as winter winds brought down what the fires started. The thing I love about this grove is the openness. The ground makes you want to lay down and fall asleep like a baby. It is so clear of debris and so soft...just little clovers and grasses, burnt and hollow trunks, and little sunrays that make it down to the ground. Open and bright and green. That's the future...
