We have exciting news to share:) Impact Bioenergy and Alegría have teamed up to include the IB HORSE AD25 in all the Alegría Farmacies that we are deploying across the country. The patented IB micro-digester provides the ultimate local recycling of organics that makes our Farmacy zero waste and carbon negative, securing our position as ultra-conscious carbon managers. Alegría’s integrated pest management strategy relies almost entire on beneficial insects such as the Praying Mantis, shown here diligently overseeing the Redbore Kale at Alegría’s SoxxBoxx Farm at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Irvine, CA. We also use Ladybugs and other beneficial bugs infrequently as the Alegría plants rarely see any disease. The very high immune strength (resilience) of our plants provides them the ability to defend themselves from predation. This comes from the diverse biological activity we maintain in our soils combined with our special elixir of minerals that assure nutrient-rich high-brix results:) Stay well!

Team Alegría has enjoyed a few world firsts lately, including producing premium regenorganic produce over asphalt, delivering 24+ nutrient-dense Harvest-to-Home healing cultivars in our weekly FarmBoxx within 8 hours of harvest, generating over 19,600 pounds of food buying power for Second Harvest Food Bank to feed the needy in the last six weeks and finally, exceeding our growth rate predictions by over 20%, allowing us to deliver 1,200 heads of excess premium romaine directly to the OC Rescue Center within one hour of harvest. Not too bad for a 3,000 sq. ft. mobile SoxxBoxx farm in a parking lot! We are proud to realize our expectations and demonstrate how we can feed people the highest quality produce anywhere, anytime. Team Alegría had the honor of hosting ZACH BUSH MD & Co at Alegría Farm where we treated our friends to a sumptuous, just harvested 5-course, "Taste of Alegría". The mutual exchange of ideas and resources we shared to alter the conversation on food was epic. We are continuing our talks and look forward to announcing big plans together in the near future. Erik Oberholtzer, co-founder of Tender Greens and myself seem to have a lot in common. We both spell our name with a k and have the same taste in feathered girls! All of us at Alegría are honored to have Erik O on our Advisory Counsel. Erik brings with him an intense passion for healthy food, caring for our planet and soil-first practices. This is super exciting.

Today was another fulfilling milestone for all of us who have worked so hard the last few months to make the Alegría SoxxBoxx Farm at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County a reality. It was our first media event and Harald and I enjoyed letting some local news outlets and radio stations in on our not so secret regenerative urban farm. Big shout out to KABC News, Univision, NPR and KNX radio, Spectrum and Blue Door. And very special thanks to Shari Battle from Bank of America for her vision, determination and support to make this happen. We are growing together now!

If it was easy, everyone would do it. This came to me at 5:30am Friday morning on my way to meet our team at the farm to start the first harvest of 23 of the finest Alegría salad cultivars. Weather was cool and perfect. Our goal was to meet the team at Second Harvest at 7:30am, design the first-ever uber-fresh FarmBoxx and get it ready to deliver farm-to-door same-day. For ten years, I have stressed the importance of increasing access to regeneratively-grown organic produce, and today we were going to make it available to 32 donors who have supported the food bank to thank them for all their assistance. Long story short, we did it, from farm-to-door same-day delivery in time for dinner! Congrats to Team Alegría and the super committed team at Second Harvest. Let’s keep growin’!

After just two months of very focused effort, I’m proud to let everyone know that Team Alegría has completed the 3,000 sq. ft SoxxBoxx Farm at the Second Harvest Food Bank parking lot. All 45 SoxxBoxx tables are in place and planted up, ready to harvest later this week and begin providing same-day harvested produce to the local community. This is no longer an idea or a demo, it is now reality and helps to solve several of our most compelling problems including food security, community resiliency, green jobs and carbon neutrality.
