May is National STOP THE BLEED Month. Car accidents, injuries and violence can lead to life-threatening injuries. Someone can bleed to death in 3-5 minutes. The average response time for paramedics is 8 minutes. Knowing how to stop the bleed can mean the difference between life and death. STOP THE BLEED is a national health campaign to teach the public how to control life-threatening bleeding. ... Alameda County EMS is the lead agency for promoting this vital education locally. Our awareness efforts include videos with stories of survivors, public service ads on AC Transit buses and at Oakland Airport, and community outreach. Free classes at local hospitals have been ongoing and will resume once the Covid-19 shelter-in-place order is lifted. Bleeding control kits will be installed alongside AED equipment at Oakland Airport and at other sites in the coming months. We are asking for your help spreading the word this May during STOP THE BLEED Month. Properly trained and equipped bystanders can save lives.
