Please take these gifts with you to 2021:
We will see immigration changes but warn all your immigrant friends to be careful about who they select as an attorney. Unscrupulous attorneys are advertising aggressively to get the client. A good attorney will not tell you he/she is the best. Another tactic used by fraudsters is to offer an initial low price for their services but later ask for more money. There is some truth behind the expression: lo barato sale caro. Please review the following:
We need immigration reform but good News today about DACA:
I am proudly part of the Reverand Martin Luther King Jr. generation. I have always admired his words as long I can remember. Like him, I have chosen a life path of love over hate. My late father was MLK’s age and a minority in the U.S. during a time of great social unrest. He taught me about overt and covert racism. He would often ask me when he disagreed with me on a social issue, Eres o te haces? Meaning, are you dumb or pretending to be? In 2016, I was guest speaker at ...a know your rights event for immigrants, co-sponored by a member of congress. Believing that knowledge is power, I was happy to share my legal knowledge on immigration and constitutional law with the public. However, the event was sabotaged by Trump loyalists/rioters/extremist yelling hateful lies. I was very upset. I wondered, Eres o te haces? The January 6, 2020 insurrection attempt at the Capitol brought that memory back. It also reminded me of the black and white footage of hateful riots in the 60s. Recently a dear friend passed away just 10 days after realizing he had Covid-19. My grief becomes more profound with the ignorance or the malice of the anti-maskers. They make me think, Eres o te haces. MLK once said, Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Both make me sad. It is true so many Americans lack education and are very ignorant. It might be bliss for some, but I hope that a new government will improve our educational system. I also hope that we make the educated Americans that were complicit to the violence most accountable for their involvement in causing fear. I have often wondered, Eres o te haces but I think it is a mistake for me to assume the best in people that should know better. I have dedicated my life to love. As an immigration attorney, I help give a voice to the voiceless. In the last four years we have successfully fought an anti-immigrant regime notwithstanding the threats we have received from Trump loyalists. With President-Elect Biden, let us make America great. Let us make bad players accountable. Let America be the world model of human rights. Let us no longer put our faith in the immoral or merely wish for the best. I thank MLK for being my model of morality.
A clip of Alan getting honored at this year's National Lawyers Guild Annual Awards Celebration. Our family, friends, colleagues and staff are so proud of you

U.S. joins other authoritarian regimes and misuses Interpol’s Red Notices to violate human rights. The Gomez family is under attack:
It took 9 years. She now joins all her siblings as being legal. She is no longer threatened with deportation. Our office enjoyed the traditional, celebration birria (goat stew). We are honored to be part of her journey. Gracias.
Trump’s policies and the facts on the impact of COVID-19 on immigrants:
California appreciates immigrants. It is sad that it needs to protect them from a xenophobic president:
Courage. Dignity. Family. Love. This is what this office supports. Please share this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_o6axAseak
This just touches the tip of the ICEberg:
Personas solicitando la residencia pongan atención:
A message from our founder: To make immigration more difficult, the government will increase fees. Here are some of the increases that will go into effect on October 2, 2020: Adjustment of Status to Lawful Permanent Residency Currently, an adjustment of status application (Form I-485) costs $1,225 for most applicants, which includes the cost of concurrently filed applications for work authorization (Form I-765) and a travel document (Form I-131). USCIS will unbundle the fil...ing fees for these applications resulting in the total price of that package increasing to $2,270. Work Authorization The application for work authorization (Form I-765) will increase from $410 to $550, with the exception of I-765s filed by recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, which will remain the same. Naturalization USCIS will increase the naturalization application (Form N-400) fee from $640 to $1,170. Additionally, it will eliminate the option to request a reduced fee of $320 using Form I-942 as well as fee waivers for the N-400. This will increase the burden on low-income immigrants seeking to naturalize, further delaying their access to citizenship. Provisional Waivers The Form I601A application for a provisional unlawful presence waiver will increase from $630 to $960. Nonimmigrant Worker Petitions The filing fee will increase fee from $460 to $695. Affirmative Asylum USCIS will impose a new fee of $50 on applications for asylum (Form I-589), making the United States one of only four countries in the world that levy such a fee on asylum seekers. The current administration has taken great measures to limit asylum opportunities in the U.S. Fee Waivers USCIS will slash existing fee waivers except for those enumerated by statute. This is not a full schedule of changes. Please contact our office to determine if you will be affected. Please do not make any hasty decisions because you want to avoid to the new fee. Our office is taking all measures to have our clients avoid paying the increased fees by filing expediously. Make sure you make an informed decision with a cool head.
You are living in the misinformation age. While many people heard hollow, scripted words and pretty imagery at the RNC, human rights continue to be ignored and the details do not make it to mainstream news. This is just a sample of many stories:
Thought of the day: During the cold war we lived with decades of fear. During the Trump administration, millions have lived with profound fear of deportation, family separation, arbitrary arrest, economic ruin, and racist violence. We must strive for positive change for the betterment of mankind and aim for perfection; this is our duty for future generations. Healing is required and criminals will have to be brought to justice like the Nuremberg trials. We cannot believe the transition will be smooth and we must not lose sight of our goals. We must overcome the misinformation and double and triple check supposed facts. Without being political, after nearly 4 years of shame and pain, the DNC has re-energized us with hope for the U.S. and the world. The vote is just the first step.
Trump, Barr and the top DHS officials are illegitimate. The American people and immigrants deserve better. We must take out the trash and take protective measures to prevent another assault on our democracy.
Congratulations to Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate. She will protect American values which includes immigrant values.
