Twenty years ago two wise Long Beach women, Liz Hancock and Fran Conley, recognized the need for a yarn shop and knew exactly where it should be located. They planted the seed in Cindy’s head, and the thought of yarn, knitting and hanging out by the bay was too hard to resist. And then, with great luck, Judy joined us as we grew. For two decades we have enjoyed watching those who love to knit, crochet and weave meld into a very special community of fiber lovers. We count these years, not in days or months, but in the smiles and memories of so many dear, loyal customers who became friends, not just with us, but with each other. One of our joys is hearing stories of friendships made over a common passion for yarn! We were also fortunate for the many talented teachers, staff and volunteers who joined us through the years to provide classes, fun events, plus special visits from well-known designers and hand dyers. With retirement looming, we knew our precious community needed the right hands to ensure continued progress as the fiber market adapts to changing times. We feel extremely lucky and very confident that three talented ladies, Sandra, Carla and Michelle, will now be shepherding your ABYC. They are looking forward to your continued support. It's a lovely feminine light jacket. The body is worked first, then stitches are picked up around the body for the collar, which is worked in three different lace patterns. Needles US6, 7 & 8 1600-1960 yds Sedona Shadows This easy-fit pullover is perfect for any age and flattering on all body types! The front and back pieces are knit from side to side. The body stitch pattern includes an eyelet mesh along one edge for the neckline, a stockinette stitch pattern in the center, and wavy lace along the other edge for the hem. The shoulders are seamed, and then the sleeves are picked up and worked outwards from the body. Linen Needle US 10 640-744 yds Sankaku A cowl or poncho! If you spread the slit to180 degrees you can then wear it in many different ways. Simple and fun to knit. It is worked from the bottom up. The mosaic pattern is easier to work than it looks. You use only knit and slipped stitches to create the color work on the mosaic pattern. The rest of the cowl is worked in stockinette, and there is no seaming. Another piece to wear several different ways. Cotton Fine - 2 colors Needles US 5 & 9 One size - 940 yds Links Links is a beautiful and simple textured cowl, made by combining smooth stockinette and textured eyelet stitches. With two strands of tape yarn held together and larger needles, the knitted fabric is chunky and textured. The larger eyelets make the fabric lighter. You need to know knit, purl, knit two stitches together and yarn over to make this cowl. No seaming, because it is worked in the round. This cowl can be worn six different ways, so versatile. It will be displayed until the end of September. Acadia is a favorite of ours and so many of our customers. It is a rustic blend of silk, baby alpaca and fine merino wool and is one of the most versatile yarns. While not part of the Trunk Show, many have made the Stone Point Poncho, by Courtney Kelley. It is knitted flat in two identical pieces. Once complete, the front and back are joined at the shoulders using a 3-needle bind off and the neckband is worked in the round.
