Assistance League of Greater Placer, in an effort to help feed the homeless in Placer County, recently partnered with the Subway Sandwich Shop, 5194 Commons Drive, in the Rocklin Commons Mall off Sierra College Blvd. Pictured are Subway owner Chad Chohan, on the right, and his son, Isai, who provided 34 foot-long sandwiches, at cost, to help feed the 100 temporary residents at The Gathering Inn shelter in Auburn. Wearing a big smile under his mask, Chad was enthusiastic about being a part of this project to help feed the homeless. There also were many smiles on the happy faces of the residents at the Gathering Inn while enjoying the delicious sandwiches! Thank You Chad! Because of Covid-19, Assistance League of Greater Placer’s Angels for Aging program immediately came to a complete stop as senior care facilities all over the nation began prohibiting anyone but health care providers to visit residents. Seniors were confined to their apartments, group activities were cancelled, and meals were delivered in disposable containers outside their doors. All celebrations and group functions were canceled. Yet, the Angels still remembered to stay... in touch by phone with their senior friends whose worlds had shrunk to the size of their apartments. Angels for Aging still donated prizes for the remote Bingo games and some even dropped off pizzas. Angels for Aging is always looking for member volunteers to help brighten the lives of seniors who often live just down the road from us. The time to share the love only takes one or two hours a month. Human kindness and connections are the essence of this program and committee chairs, Susan Macor and Janet Patten, would love to have you join them in this worthwhile program! Assistance League of Greater Placer’s Kids on the Block program is an outreach educational puppet program performed in schools to enlighten children about social issues like bullying, school safety, and learning differences. Many children in our local schools have been presented with their shows and love the puppets! To brighten the lives of children during these difficult times, the Kids on the Block puppets wanted to share the magic of the holiday season. During these difficult times, Assistance League of Greater Placer has seen the need for helping the homeless in our local area. As a result, 230 men’s coats, and many women’s coats, were collected with the help of donations from our caring communities, our members, and the Firebelles - Lake of the Pines.
