Aidan for UCLA External Vice President 20.01.2021

With less than 24 hours left, vote #AidanforEVP at bit.ly/usac2020vote! In the dark times we find ourselves in with students off-campus, out of work, and fighting for their basic needs in the midst of a global pandemic now, more than ever, we need an External Vice President who can advance a bold vision for our campus community. And I‘m running for to put my years of organizing, advocacy, and coalition-building experience to work for students at the council table to do ju...st that. Leading the UC Student Association (UCSA), I have fought for student needs against Regents, in Sacramento, and in D.C. helping bring back millions in support for UCLA students. I rallied campus UC EVP offices to achieve a first-of-its-kind adoption of $43 million in recruitment and retention funding for marginalized students in UC’s budget. On ASUCLA’s board, I pushed for lower fees, greater student engagement, and stronger ethical labor standards. With students fighting for survival in a global pandemic, I will center the needs of the most vulnerable in confronting our new reality: IN OUR UNIVERSITY - Democratize lobbying, funding, and training to support student group advocacy. - Formalize a community board to build EVP accountability to student communities. - Work to implement ASUCLA CalFresh access and benefit enrollment on-campus. - Expand BruinsVote’s focus on historically disenfranchised voting groups. IN OUR REGION - Build on efforts to increase affordable housing and student shelter in Westwood. - Target untapped county dollars for basic needs, mental health, and transit access. - Expand lobbying access by bringing lawmakers directly to students on campus. IN OUR STATE - Fight for UC affirmative action through ACA 5, the repeal of Prop. 209. - Advocate for long-term financial support for student workers impacted by Covid-19. - Agitate for college affordability, tuition stabilization, and financial aid reform. I hope you’ll join me in fighting for a bolder, more inclusive, and brighter future ahead by voting #AidanforEVP by Friday at 1 p.m. (less than a day away)! #MyVoiceMyVote #BruinVoices UCLA USA Elections Board For more information on USAC Elections, visit uclaelectionsboard.org.

Aidan for UCLA External Vice President 01.01.2021

too long; *do* read: vote Aidan for UCLA External Vice President at bit.ly/usac2020vote open now For those of you that really know me, you know I like to ...keep myself busy. When Aidan called me and asked me to join his team, I was working two jobs, volunteering at the courthouse, in a research team, leading Bruin Dems, on the student board for EDI, planning a workshop series for SAA, and was about to start a PhD course, join a second research project, and start my undergraduate thesis. But when he told me he was running for USAC External Vice President and asked me to be his join his team as his Communications Director, my exact words were, If this was for literally anyone else I would say no, but I’d love to. Most of our team has known Aidan since orientation, day one in the EVP Office their first year, etc., but I actually got to know Aidan just this year through SAA and through his stellar advocacy work. While I had heard of Aidan and the amazing work he had been doing for the past few years, this year I truly got to know him as a close friend and the person I absolutely and unshakably know to be the best candidate for EVP possible. I’ve seen Aidan rally student efforts across the state for Proposition 13, which was a higher education proposition looking to improve infrastructure vital to student safety, when we cohosted a text bank (that he admittedly did all the work for). I’ve been on long calls with Aidan where he spoke to community leaders from various campus orgs to make sure his platforms were grounded in the communities they served. I’ve volunteered at an event he coordinated for SAA called First-Gen Networking Night cohosted by AFGU, the first event of its kind in our org. Aidan has also been a loyal and compassionate friend since I’ve known him and just last week hopped on a call with me and offered his support and guidance immediately in a moment where I was beyond overwhelmed (despite likely having 17 meetings that day too). I know Aidan is a good listener and I know he will not only listen to student voices, but take action to advocate for these needs with student leaders, as he has done with his entire campaign (and previous service!!!) thus far. Aidan is humble, so let me gas him up for a second The man has been Legislative Director of the EVP Office, led the UC Student Association (system-wide student government leadership that the EVP Office works heavily with), and advocated with students at ASUCLA, the Academic Senate, UC Regents, and more. He has 25 student organization endorsements (including Bruin Democrats, Queer Alliance, Asian Pacific Coalition, Hillel, Out of State Student Association, UC Womxn’s Leadership Conference, Nommo, and more), the Daily Bruin called him one of the most qualified candidates the board has interviewed for the position in recent years, and he has the support of EVPs across the state (including the President of UCSA) His campaign has been about putting community first and building a coalition of students and that’s exactly what he’s done. His campaign has also focused on USAC engagement and stayed exclusively positive because Aidan knows that this is about more than one race and cares deeply about student voices being heard. This team has truly become a family for me and I could not be prouder to vote #AidanforEVP now that voting is open. I also want to take a quick second to shout out the best Communications Team in this entire election: Alyssa Rivera our Social Media Director, Kim Giang our Graphics Director, and Haley Cowles our Website Design Director.
