This week we celebrate our Respiratory Care Team during National Respiratory Therapist Week. During these unprecedented times, our Adventist Health Glendale Respiratory Therapists have never been more vital. When you hear about ventilators, breathing and oxygen problems, associated with COVID-19, that is the cornerstone of what they do. These are the moments when the respiratory therapist is vital. In coordination with the physician, they administer lifesaving medications and... skillfully manage patients who require ventilation. They work closely with our nursing counterparts to assure patients and their families that their loved ones are well cared for. Their commitment to improving patients’ lung function and quality of life in invaluable. Our RT team even received a proclamation declaring National Respiratory Week in the City of Glendale! We thank you for being the heroes that you are! See more

As National Co-Chair of the TARGIT U.S. Registry clinical trial and President of the TARGIT Collaborative Group, breast surgeon Dennis R. Holmes, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a world-recognized expert in targeted intraoperative radiotherapy (TARGIT). Dr. Holmes is now performing this breast cancer treatment exclusively at Adventist Health Glendale. What is targeted intraoperative radiotherapy? TARGeted Intraoperative radioTherapy (TARGIT) or IORT is a form of breast radiation that is... administered as a single treatment at the time of lumpectomy to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. As a type of partial breast irradiation, TARGIT limits the radiation treatment to the tumor site where the risk of recurrence is highest. This spares the rest of the breast and surrounding tissues (e.g., heart and lung) the side effects of radiation. TARGIT takes only 30 minutes to deliver. By comparison, traditional whole breast radiotherapy administers radiation to the whole breast, chest wall, and to some degree the nearby organs, and takes several weeks to complete. Although other methods of IORT are available, the TARGIT method is the only IORT approach whose effectiveness and safety have been proven in a randomized trial with long-term follow-up to 18 years. For consultations or referrals: Dennis R. Holmes, M.D., F.A.C.S. 818-539-1985 1505 Wilson Terrace, Ste. 150 Glendale, CA 91206 Mon, Tue, Wed: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
