#ASGFlashback #beforecovid19 #tbt Laura Hyunjhee Kim was one of the artists that featured at CRINGE ASG’s 2ND Annual Open Call for Works in Video! CRINGE ... 2ND ANNUAL OPEN CALL FOR WORKS IN VIDEO 9 January 7 February 2015 Aggregate Space Gallery was pleased to present the selection of works from ASG’s second annual open call for time-based media. By choosing to forgo a themed call, a cohesive show was grown out of individual relationships between the 100+ submissions. This year, the works that stood out were self-reflexive performances of awkward personal narratives that cause near physical reactions. Each piece cleverly, and often disturbingly, portrayed the artist as an alter-ego that rejects social norms, challenging what a public persona should be. Featured works by Keith DeNatale, Eliza Gagnon, Anna Garner, Kate Hampel, Katie Hovencamp, Laura Hyunjhee Kim, Monica Panzarino, James Tantum, and Rachel Yurkovich. https://aggregatespacegallery.org/project/asg26/

#ASGFlashback #beforecovid19 #tbt Kate Gilmore video was featured at A Tempting Fate ASG’s eleventh exhibition in 2013! A Tempting Fate: ... Inevitability and Scientific Fortune 1 March 16 March 2013 Aggregate Space Gallery presented a group show featuring time-based media surveying our ever-unfolding exploration of human nature and technology. Each project described the clarity, and sometimes chaos, that occurred as an organized body of knowledge was dissected and rebuilt in the visual language of science. Together, in A Tempting Fate, these pieces formed a hopeful but anxious manifestation of future possibilities. Featured works by Kate Gilmore, Chris Kennedy, Ranu Mukherjee, Erika Staiti with AVaspo (Gabriele Labanauskaite and Antanas Dombrovskij), Gail Wight, and Doug Garth Williams. https://aggregatespacegallery.org/project/asg11/

#ASGflashback Aggregate Animated Shorts Second Annual Film Festival 6 July - 4 August 2018... "A Magic Lantern and 15 Magic Slides" by Carla Ciuffo won the Audience Choice, the Most Seductive Animation award at our Second Annual Film Festival in 2018! In our ongoing effort to present unique and challenging art experiences to the public, Aggregate Space Gallery launched the celebration of non-commercial and experimental animation for the first time! Animation, as a subset within video art, is unique in its versatility as a communicative form and its ability to place viewers inside adjacent realities. It is a medium without rules or restrictions, and its content can address ideas as simple or as complex as the animator intends. The exhibition culminated in an award ceremony hosted by artist, animator, and Congratulations Pine Tree co-host, Kate Rhoades. We screened the top two films from each category, as well as a viewer’s choice award from each category. Viewer’s Choice categories were rated by visitors to the gallery. The event also included a film by each of our exhibition jurors: Meghana Bisineer, Tan Wei Keong, Clement Hil Goldberg, and Jeremy Rourke. Featured shorts by: Noah Aust, Mike Cantor, Carla Ciuffo, Sandro Del Rosario, Lydia Greer, Paula Moxham Imirzian, Michael Siporin Levine, Ryan Lewis, Wrik Mead, Sarah Paulsen, Paige Stewart, Jordan Wason, and Jeffrey Yip. https://aggregatespacegallery.org/project/asg54/

#ASGFlashback All Ways Lead to the Mill A Solo Exhibition by Jamil Hellu Presented in conjunction with the National Queer Arts Festival... 3 June - 18 June 2016 Jamil Hellu examines the conflicts that emerge at the intersection of Middle-Eastern heritage and queerness. Hellu claims his Syrian roots and Arab ethnicity, questioning the complexities and stereotypes associated with this background. While addressing homophobia and sexuality, his work juxtaposes cultural imagery in jarring and often humorous ways. Hellu’s exploration of his compound-complex identity activates a contemporary discourse around the implications of cultural lineage. Aggregate Space Gallery presented the work of moving and still images that explored how we navigate our relationship to our shared cultural histories and personal narratives. The title, All Ways Lead To The Mill, was inspired by a Syrian proverb about how different paths lead to the same destination. Similarly, Hellu’s work used humor, insight, and self-awareness to examine and critique the different facets of his identity, ultimately weaving the varied threads into a singular, inescapable quest. https://aggregatespacegallery.org/project/asg37/
