A QUICK NOTE: Hi family! (long post, but I want to keep you updated) As you know, this global health crisis came swiftly, with little time to prepare for this nationwide shutdown that has left us on "pause" for months. Many of our suppliers are still unable to provide us with the materials needed to make our hair products in a timely manner (even containers are on back order up to 3 months).... So I pivoted. For the past month, I have used my decades of experience with a sewing machine to make face masks for first responders and essential workers across the U.S., as well as individuals who are being compliant with local and State mandates. The masks are made from African Ankara fabrics with a filter sewn into the product for an additional layer of protection. They are washable, reusable and fully reversible and utilizes a two-strap elastic design that goes around the head rather than the ears (this comfort-fit design is recommended to reduce strain on the ears and provide a much more snug fit around the face). The last thing I want to do is open prematurely, just to have suppliers tell me about their 3-month backorders. That would be a nightmare! I will surely keep you posted though. I love to sew, mainly to relax, and made these for the family since we do have to leave the house on occasion. All of the unused fabric I brought back from Ghana is getting put to good use. I even put a filter inside for an additional layer of support. They’re not N95 level masks, but since we’re now required to wear a face covering whenever we’re out, they certainly help in the fight to keep from spreading the COVID-19 virus further. #stayingsafe

IT’S TEA TIME! // Ayurvedic tea rinses are amazing for hair and scalp health, and can be blended in numerous combinations to relieve itchy scalp, reduce hair loss, or even just for a chemical-free shampoo and conditioner. Here are some basic, but effective, combinations to try: : Combine shikakai, soap nuts, amla and yucca root ... : Combine amla, licorice root, fenugreek and brahmi : Combine licorice root, sesame seeds, horsetail and calendula : Place 1 tablespoon of each herb in a glass container. Pour 8 ounces of boiling water over the herbs, cover and steep for 10-20 minutes. Strain the mixture and allow the liquid to cool (using cheesecloth helps remove the last bits of herb from your mix). Pour over your head and distribute throughout your hair, gently massaging your scalp, after your regular shampoo, condition, and detangling session. Do not rinse.
