I am often asked what one should focus on when trying to lose weight. Especially as we get older. And this is what I tell them in this order. 1. diet 2. strength 3. cardio... I tell my clients to follow the 80/20 rule. Eat clean 80% of the time and indulge 20%. Strength training will change your body, add more muscle and help burn more calories. It will help improve your range of motion and balance. Strength training with reduced rest in between sets will increase your heart rate and provide cardiovascular benefit. Don't get me wrong cardio is important in improving your cardiovascular and pulmonary health. I LOVE that runners high!!! Nothing clears my head than a good cardio sweat. Cardio trains your body to use oxygen more efficiently. Continued cardiovascular training gradually reduces your resting heart rate and strengthens your heart so it does not have to work as hard during rest. What is your favorite workout?
