People who have poor posture are more likely to fall and injure themselves. Here is our group exercise instructor, Jeremy, demonstrating a quick and easy chin tuck exercise to help improve posture, increase muscle strength, and reduce stress in the neck. Start by sitting or standing up straight. Then, you’ll want to slowly pull your chin down and bring it back up gently. Do this exercise a few times a day and you will be one step closer to a better posture! #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #wellnesswednesday #groupexerciseinstructor #eldersinn #alamedaseniors #seniorexercise
Did you know? Kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods you can buy at the grocery store! It is high in vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, calcium, and filled with powerful antioxidants. Including kale in your diet will also help lower your blood pressure, cholesterol, and promote better eyesight. Wow, kale yeahhh! #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #wellnesswednesday #alamedaseniors
For 2021, let’s start the year fresh with new fitness goals. Your workouts don’t have to be complicated. They can be as simple as walking extra steps to return the grocery shopping cart to the designated area or as complex as going for a 2 mile run regularly. Whichever way you choose to workout, please keep in mind of these guidelines from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Masks should be used in public settings, but if you are unable to wear a mask because of difficulty breathing during high intensity activities, choose a location with greater ventilation and air exchange (for instance, outdoors versus indoors) and where you can keep at least 6 feet from others during the activity. #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #wellnesswednesday #alamedaseniors #seniorexercise #newyearnewgoals #newyearnewfitnessgoals

Did you know that the older a woman is, the higher the chance that she will get diagnosed with breast cancer? In the age group 60-70, about 1 in 28 women will get it. You can reduce your risk with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and limit your alcohol/smoking. Make sure you are aware of your family history and don’t forget to get screened regularly and do your monthly self exams! #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #wellnesswednesday #breastcancerawareness #breastcancerawarenessmonth #breastcancer
Did you skip breakfast again this morning? Maybe because you overslept this morning or because you believe it will help you lose weight? Stop doing that! Eating breakfast is essential to balancing your blood sugar levels, energizing your body, and stimulating your metabolism. Breakfast doesn’t have to be a complicated and fancy meal. Something simple, similar to toast and fruit, would be enough to keep you fueled during your busy mornings. Even something small, is better than nothing at all.. #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #wellnesswednesday
Did you know that staying positive can lower the level of stress in your life? It can also improve your psychological and physical being because it affects your outlook on life. For #wellnesswednesday this week, let’s keep things simple: offer more smiles than frowns, more assistance than criticism, and make more friends than enemies. My coffee cup (glass) is half full! #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #staypositive #glasshalffull
#wellnessWednesday It's been particularly warm in our lovely city of Alameda lately. That means it's even more important than usual to stay hydrated, but do you know how to recognize the signs of dehydration? Here are a few top common signs you're dehydrated: Increased thirst Dry mouth and skin... Rapid heartbeat Dizziness and headaches Decreased/dark urine Make it a habit to remind yourself to drink water. You can try linking it to your daily activities, like drinking a glass of water each time you check the clock at work or every time you sneak out your cell phone to check your texts. P.S. If you think you're dehydrated or having a medical emergency, please don't hesitate to seek medical help!
It's easy to not want to do anything else physical after a workout, but stretching can actually help you feel better quicker and reduce your chances of getting a painful cramp. Stretching helps your muscles relax and improve the circulation of blood flow, which is critical after a workout. It can be something as simple as reaching both arms high above your head or reaching over as if you're patting yourself on the back. Make sure you stretch for about 5 minutes overall and then you're done, congrats on a wonderful workout! #wellnesswednesday #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #workoutwednesday
With such high water content, that means it's great for keeping you hydrated. During this heat wave, save me a wedge while I dance and sing! "I don't know if I could ever go without watermelon sugar high..." #wellnesswednesday #seniorfitness #seniorhealth #alameda #stayhydrated #didyouknow
#WellnessWednesday Did You Know? Spinach is a superfood! Not only is it full of fiber and vitamins, but it’s a great source of iron. Iron is important in preventing anemia and osteoporosis, making it a vital nutrient as we age. Spinach is in nearly every grocery store, and after rinsing it can be eaten raw or cooked. Try it in salads, casseroles, omelets, and sandwiches!
We must seek to assist each other to the best of our ability and relieve the constraints we face together and we will facilitate life in a better world. #juneteenth
