In the ATLA Foundations Art History course, high school students will learn how to approach any work of art with confidenceeven excitement! In the ATLA Foundations advanced Statistics course, high school students will begin with a flash review of the classic statistical measurements (mean, median, first quartile, etc.), and then dive straight into some early AP course material. Students will explore the ideas of probability and randomization and learn the basics of standardizing data and looking at normal curves. After this course, the first few months of Statistics class should feel like a breeze! This online program runs from July 20 to August 14, 2020. Our ATLA Foundations Psychology class uses a comprehensive forest-for-the-trees approach to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the myriad topics they can expect to cover in a year-long high school Psychology course. Each session will lay the informational groundwork for a particular topic (for example, the scientific foundations of psychology or the biological bases of behavior) and demonstrate how best to approach the material in a practical sense. ATLA’s Advanced Research and Study Skills course prepares recent high school graduates to make the transition to college life both academically and personally. Students will learn the art of counterarguments and other tools that will help them surpass the expectations of any given writing assignment. Furthermore, students will learn how to navigate a working relationship with professors and teaching assistants, how to interpret a syllabus, and how to take advantage of the aca...demic resources available to them. This course will also provide students with an understanding of the practical skills necessary to survive and thrive at college: time management, study skills, and study/work/social balance. All students will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with each of the instructors teaching the course to receive individually tailored guidance as they prepare for this next step on their educational journey.
