Just wrapped up an amazing weekend of training in New Hampshire!! We got to work with great mix of teams from young pups to adult dogs prepping for competition. It’s always super humbling to be invited out to coach these workshops. I mega appreciate everyone who attended and trusted me with their dogs Thank you guys for being so excited and open minded!! It was awesome to see all of the teams progress through the weekend, you guys all left me feeling super inspired Huge shout out to our hosts Alyssa & Josh for inviting us out. Judo and I had an amazing time, looking forward to doing it again! @kanos_rayne @valak_the_dutchie @jwolf83 @thewaywardcanine

BOWIE! The 1 year old Husky x German Shepherd mix Yesterday was Bowie’s first birthday, so she celebrated by coming to ACS for some training Bowie has been coming to private lessons for some months, and she recently finished her first Training Retreat program with us In yesterday’s lesson we focused on refining their techniques, getting her owner up to speed and introducing her to what Bowie has learned with the E-collar. Love the strides this team is taking!! ...On a side note: We get asked all the time, how do you get your dogs to be so focused or engaged? How do you get them to walk like that? We honestly don’t focus too much on building or requiring a focused heel. This level of attention is just a byproduct of clear communication and enthusiasm for learning & working. Our first priority when approaching any dog and their training is to make sure they’re invested in the learning and enjoying the process. We rarely start training behaviors until that is achieved. Some things that come to mind and some things to ask yourself when approaching your training: - Am I teaching by promoting what I want? Or by correcting what I don’t want? - Does my dog really understand the criteria of what is expected within each behavior, therefore choosing to do? Or simply avoiding what they know will get them corrected, therefore choosing to not do? There’s a huge difference between a dog that is actively seeking to do the right things, compared to a dog who’s simply avoiding to do the wrong things. One of the most incredible qualities, yet also one of the saddest when it comes to our dogs is, as their teachers we could be so unclear and get things wrong 90% of the time, yet these amazing animals still find out a way to figure it out... Don’t rely on this when it comes to your training. This started as a short post.... oops
